novagem buttons without LED controller..new problem
« on: February 13, 2009, 05:53:58 pm »
hey guys, i just got my novagem buttons (only two for now) and i want to wire them up so that they are always on when the pc is running.  my ultimarc trackball is connected the the 5v and grnd on the pc power supply, i understand that i can do this with the novagems as well, i just  dont want to kill them.  which wire needs attached to the 5v, and which to the ground?  from the info that i found, i believe that the plain wire goes to 5v, and the one with the resistor goes to ground...is this correct?

NEVERMIND.....I got some assistance on the chat room, plain wire to 5v, resistor to ground, worked great.

Now if only the yellow novagems stayed yellow when lit up..they are very orange looking when lit. Have any of you tried using a clear LED with the yellow novagems?  i like the way they look, but the yellow is not yellow, and it really contrasts with my yellow happ buttons.

I checked at Radio Shack for white LEDS, but they wanted nearly $6 for one of them, so i decided to pass.  I saw groovygamegear sells white LEDS for $.49, but shipping was $7, so that made no sense either.  so last night i bought a cheap LED keychain flashlight at walmart.  it was pretty bright and cost $2, so i figured it was worth a try.   when i took it apart, i noticed that it was just an LED with two 3v batteries between the two leads...when you squeezed it, it lit up.  so this was painless to wire up to the 5v from my pc power supply..so i installed that in my Yellow novagem button and now it lights up much more yellow and much less orange.    i dont know if it quite as bright as my blue novagem now, but i figure the next time i need to order from GGG, i'll throw in a few white LEDs, but for now, i is much better than it was.

note to Randy T...perhaps yellow novagems should be offered with white LEDs as an option on your site.  also, pics of all the different colors, lit and unlit, would have been nice so you could see what you are ordering.  If i could have seen the way the yellow buttons looked when illuminated, i would have ordered white LEDs to go along with them.
