Quit Zsnes in Mala...
« on: February 12, 2009, 01:10:20 pm »
Hi Guys!!! I'm new in the forum...!
I have a problem:

I'm configuring Mala to play snes game with Zsnes but I found some difficulties...

When I tap esc (to exit emulator and return in Mala menu) just appear the Znes menu with the file panel open!

Some peaple advice me to tap ALT+F4 to exit emuletor and it work, but not very well!, I mean, sometimes when I do it for exit emulator and I open another game, the emuletro don't work well, infact, I just hear the game sound but the screen still balck!

I must try to open a rom from Mala menu several times before the emulator works good!

So, there's some particular line command to add in the Mala emulator option to exit emulator just tiping ext button on my keybord?

Thank you very much for your attention!

I'm not sure if I got a "hacked" version of zsnes, but I currently have mine configured to exit back to MALA with the ESC key.  Here's the pertinent info that I have...hopefully these steps will work for you.

1) Open ZSNES and configure it the way you want before moving on to step 2.  This isn't crucial, but will prevent you from having to change step 2 each time.

2) Open zsnesw.cfg with notepad and edit the following line from "guioff=0" to "guioff=1".  this will disable the GUI, making changes impossible from within the application.  You can change this back at any time to make configuration changes via the main menu.  This SHOULD cause ZSNES to exit the app and back to MALA with the ESC key.

3) Open the options in MALA (right-click-->options), Other Emu Config tab.  Highlight your SNES in the "Emulators" box.  On the Basics tab, name it whatever you want.  Click the "..." button next to Executable and browse to your zsnesw.exe.  Click the "..." next to Rom path and browse to the folder your SNES roms are in.  Rom extensions should prefill with every extension from the folder in the "Rom path" box.  Now, on the "Executions" tab the preset "%path%\%rom%.%ext%" doesn't seem to work for me.  I found putting the following in that box, including the quotes.  "[Copy and Paste the info in the Rom path box from the Basics tab here]\%rom%.%ext%"

4) The "Options" tab contains the paths for snaps and/or videos if you elect to use them in your layout, but aren't necessary to get the emulator running.

Hope this helps...let me know if I can do anything else!

Have you tried using the hotkeys feature in Mala to map the ESC key to ALT-F4 to close?

I use that one alot with emulators and pc games on my cab.

Dungbeetle has the best place to get snaps...just remember the rom name and the snap name have to match EXACTLY or the snap won't show.

Circo is the man around here for video previews.  You can find his website at www.emumovies.com

NOTE: Circo is in the process of changing servers, so a lot of the content isn't quite available yet.  He appears to be updating the FTP stuff pretty quickly, so you might want to keep checking the site.

Hope it helps!

How thank you guyz very helpfully!!!!!!!!!!

So yes!, I know that snaps, and all others extras must match excatly with the roms name... infact I found some truble downloading a snes boxart cuz in the jpg file there wasen't the final [!] wich is in several roms!

I already knows emumovies.com!!! I took a look at the site but as you told me he's changing servers so several stuff are not downladable... but till now I didn't know that he's changing server I just tought that he was closing site!

So I'll wait for him to complete my collection!

THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY MUCH GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!

If someone of you has other link to extrafiles please post!!! ;D

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

hi Guys... I have a question about this!...
There's some hack or some program wich automatically put the roms from my Good in the Roms folder (but just the roms wich have extrafiles as snaps and boxart)

In this way, I also ecxlude some no-useful roms, because you know, sometimes there are 5-6 roms for a single game...

Thank you very much guys!

Yes, I'm sorry for my bad english...
I try to explain better what's my problem...

I have a GoodSnes and a GoodGen...
in this folder there are 7z files wich contains a folder with all version of the single roms...

For example:
Donkey Kong Country.7z contains a "Donkey Kong Country" foleder with:
Donkey Kong Country U [!].zip
Donkey Kong Country E.zip
etc etc...

So, I downloades extrafiles, as box scan, screenshot, etc... to use it in Mala...

But as you know, not all games are compatible with it's art... because the name of the rom, and the name of the "art" missmatch...

So I'd like to find some programs that allow me to use only the rooms wich have the same name of the roms...
In this way, I'will put in the roms folder of my emulator only the roms wich have it's own art.

My Mala Frontend, so, will be more beatiful!

Wish you can understand me, while I'll take a look at the programs you suggested me!

Thank you very much!!!

what you have are original roms and clone roms
be careful deleting roms because some roms wont work without its parent rom in there as well
fuzzyrenamer will rename the screenshots to the same name as the roms
and under mame config\options put a tick in use pictures & videos of masters for clones

Thank you very much, but the fact is that I don't use MAME roms, so there's no problem deleting superfluous roms...

Anad bout the MAME options use pictures & videos of masters for clones I can't use it because I don't use MAME but only MESS and Snes9x...

I must find somethings that works with this emulators...

Thank you again!

He told you already, fuzzyrenamer does what you are looking for.

http://www.waste.org/~winkles/fuzzyRename/

Quote
FuzzyRename - If you've got a bunch of .png or .avi files that are similarly, but not quite exactly named to your ROM/zip file names, such as:
Desert Falcon (1987) (Atari) (PAL).png
Desert Falcon (1987) (Atari) (PAL) [!].a26

and you'd like to get the names to match so you can use them in an emulator, then this program is for you!

Quote
Usage
1) browse to the folder with the files you want to rename. (typically your .png or .avi files)
2) browse to the folder with the files you'd like to match (typically rom files or .zip files)
3) the program will chew on these 2 folders for awhile (yes, it is a slow process, sorry) and then display a list: the rom name, the closest .png file it could find, and then the target filename. You will likely have to expand the list out to see all the details.
4) browse to the folder where you want the renamed files to be placed. - the source .png files are never actually changed-the files are copied and renamed to the destination folder.
5) press Go! to do the entire list, or:
5a) select individual files to work on. If you highlight a file(s) you can right click it and copy+rename an individual file, delete the selection, or change the target filename by hand.
5b) pressing the delete key when files are selected will delete them from the list
5c) 2x clicking the a filename will pop up the target filename editor

It doesn't matter if its for mame or not, it will work for any emu. If you currently have all your files in multiple folders then take all the roms out and put them in one big rom folder, then take all your snaps and put them in one big snaps folder, etc. Then use fuzzy renamer to rename the snaps to that of the rom files.

Ok I got it...

I already use fuzzyrenamer to rename artwork name as roms name...
But there's another fact...
I'm looking for something that separate the roms wich have no artwork, from roms wich have it!...

I also saw that in fuzzy renamer there's a function create .bat
Is it useful for my intention?

Because there are a lot of roms that are superfluous or not work at all!...
Maybe somethings like a filter with safe me a long manual work, taking roms one by one...

I'd like to have only the original roms... not 20 files of same roms...and also erase all the hacking game...
(for example there are a lot of Super Mario hack games...  :dizzy:)

I hope you can understand my problem...

thank you so much!

Well, just in case you're still waiting on an answer for this, I believe the program that you're looking for would be something like "UnGoodMerge".  That'll let you clear out all the roms from those zip files that you don't want to use.  The first run may take a little bit of time, but its certainly faster than trying to manually remove (and rezip if needs be) all the roms that you don't want.

I apologize that I don't have the link atm, but a quick Google of UngoodMerge should get you there pretty quick.
