few questions about sidewinder ?
« on: June 25, 2003, 02:56:36 pm »
Hey Gang.
I've been around for awhile (had some problems staying logged in). Anyways...

I finsihed my sidewinder-hacked arcade joystick (6 button layout )plus 2 side butttons

My question is : Is there anyway to set the other buttons (not the mail 6) so I can get it to register as a #1 keyboard press.. I nother words, I have my start button from the sidewinder that I want to prgram it to be a 1P start button

I change the setting in the sidewinder profile program, record the movement as (1)  but it doesn;t seem to save it..any help ??

I assume you are using MAME, correct?

Why not hit TAB in mame (or use ctrl.ini files ) and select INPUT (GENERAL)... scroll down to PLAYER 1 START and remap whatever key your want to be player 1 start?

I wouldn't bother with the keystroke converting profile for the sidewinder unless you *had* to, to get certain emus to work.   Mostly ones that don't accept sidewinder./joy input natively... ( I needed to only do this for say Daphne and maybe a c64 emu)

Rampy,
(yes, mame) I understand what you are saying about remapping to whatever button I want to use..but what I want to do is:

I have 2 buttons on the side of the joystick, I want to map one button for credits and one button for start. I want to do this so, if I put it in a cabinet and load up a game I will not have to use the keyboard at all (once it is loaded into mame)..so I guess my question is (even though you wouldn't bother) how do I a keystroke conversion profile??

Also , i am REALLLLLY interested in Daphne  (I want to play Thayer's quest and Dragon's Lair) .  Can you help me out with this, I heard you need to have the mpeg movie of Dragon;s lair (and not the laser disk) in order to play ?? Can you explain to me about Daphne

Thanks
from a noob

Anthony

I actually don't remember =(  After creating the profile you'll need to load it via right clicking on that little applet in your system tray I imagine.

But I don't think you understand what I was saying.  You call up that mame menu, and then press the button you want for player 1 start.  then map the other button to player 1 coin up (or however they phraze it in that menu)

couple that with a good front end you won't need a keyboard  (alhtough its smart to come up with a combo of button pushes to escape mame as well)

DAPHNE is really a whole other discussion.  You need to either create or find the mpegs of the original laser disc (or converted from DVD ROMS from digital leisure) ... you'll need the much smaller roms, and of course daphne itself.  I'd get Daphne working on your system before you worry about remapping the sidewinder for it =P
