You did the right thing, and from a seller standpoint I'd totally understand.
Years ago I ran a site that sold gaming accessories and other things, I cut off entrance to the store from the main site and "thought" I shut the store down to new orders while I was away for a few months and couldn't fill any orders.
When I came back, I had 6 unfilled orders.....WTF. Seems I hadn't shut down the cart system and people were finding their way to the store via Google. 3 of the orders were new enough that I just filled them, the other 3 had filed Paypal claims.
I filled their orders, and 2 dropped their claims, the other 1 person conveniently stopped responding to me after I told them I had shipped their order, got their money back and kept what I sent them.
If a seller can't understand you trying to cover your own ass legitimately, even though they've run into a problem where they couldn't contact you, it's a seller I'd never want to deal with again.
