Which CPU better for Mame

I've got 2Ghz P4 and 2.6 Ghz P4 Celery, which one would be better for mame machine?

I would say the 2ghz P4. Celerons suck for everything.

And report back your findings here, s'il vous plait. I'm thinking of buying a 3ghz P4 or a 3.4Ghz Celeron for cheap, cheap to throw in my arcade cab.

Really what you need to be asking your self is what games do you want to play. If it is the newer 3d games only the fastest out would barely run them if that at all. If that is the CPU( the celeron) that you have then all you need to do is play you favorites in Mame until you find one that doesn't play right. When that happens roll back the version of Mame to an older release along with you Mame set until it does. I would suggest the ones before a major core change.

Is there some sort of table that list all the mame games processors power required. I figured maybe most older games would be under a certain level and only the newest would be taxing, of course there would be some exceptions on both sides.

There's the MAME benchmark database that shows the speed at which various versions of MAME run certain games with particular CPUs.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.
