Mala 1.6.13 + CabVol.exe
« on: January 29, 2009, 11:34:08 am »
I'm not sure if this is a bug or if there is a setting to switch... here's the deal:

I'm using CabVol.exe which is an app which sets the Wave Volume slider of the sound panel via hotkey.  This app works fine.  Now I have my voume knob set moderately loud, and CabVol limits the Wave Volume to a quiet level.  When I want to rock out, I can now turn up the volume w/o reaching in back of the cab.

When Mala starts up, it appears to raise the WaveSlider to full volume, scaring the baJesus out of me when booting the cab, as I wasn't expecting full volume.  I can use CabVol to crank the volume back to normal levels while in Mala.  Upon exiting Mala, the sound volume of the wave slider appears to get set back to what it was when Mala was iniated.

I am looking for a checkbox/option that, "does not auto-adjust sound levels".  Does/can that exist for next release?

I have not used CabVol so I am not aware of this issue.

How have you got it set up to Launch it?

CabVol is currently in my XP startup folder.  I'd bet if you open your soundpanel from the control panel, set the Wave slider to low then close it, open/close Mala and recheck sound panel, the issue shows Wave slider at full volume.  Cabvol is simply a hook to that slider.

Why not just use the inherent volume in MaLa? (Look in controller>advanced in MaLa options.) It affects at system level, which is also probably why you're having issues, as it's conflicting with your (unnecessary) app.

CabVol allows use of spinner as volume dial plus has a mute option.

Should I just add those features to mala?

Where can I download it?

CabVol can be downloaded here.  You can add those features to Mala if you'd like.  Note that my spinner acts as the windows Z axis (scroll wheel).  The appeal of keeping that in a separate app is that I can exit Mala for regular windows use (surfing the net, other jukebox, etc..) and still have the ability to control my volume.  I'd prefer seeing an option added added somewhere in Mala which didn't maximize/reset any windows volume levels upon startup/exit.

Thanks!
