i got a new 2.0 ghz athlon xp (2400+) from newegg.com, mobo and processer, sans all drives, for $173. had integrated geforce2 card as well. runs nicely

looks like eCost has some $299 refurb HP Pavillions (Athalon 1800's) here http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?DPNo=152392 for those looking for cheap machines.  I'm sure you can find even cheaper out there if you look hard.

i got a new 2.0 ghz athlon xp (2400+) from newegg.com, mobo and processer, sans all drives, for $173. had integrated geforce2 card as well. runs nicely

How do you like the picture quality of that integrated geoforce2? Have you had a chance to check it out yet?

I didn't post a link because I was sharing information based on what is happening at intel factories...there is a huge push on ramping up these older chips over the next few weeks. no it's not refurbs, they are new. I just noticed alot of people here lookin to buy computers fairly soon, and thought I would share what is going on, if no one cares...so be it, just something people can keep in mind.

actually, it is exactly the same as the geforce2 card that i bought separetly for my other computer. surprised me very much.

Ahh...  it was all so vague it was hard to interpret that you were talking more about a general shift in prices over all (for intel chips in the 1.8 range)..

That's good to know... so does that mean I should buy, sell, or hold intel stock? (I'm just teasing don't directly own any intel stock)

So does this mean they got a really cheap / mass yield of 1.8s? or did a batch of 3 ghz go horribly wrong? (I realize it might not necessarily work that way)

*shrug*  I'll keep an eye out to watch the prices.

actually all it means is with a combination of back to school and an increase of demand for lower end chips intel is increasing loading for these chips and driving prices down...the chips I'm refering to are designed at the speed they are being sold at
