Where to find coin doors?
« on: January 24, 2009, 12:43:47 am »
Hey there guys... I was in the market for an inexpensive coin door for my arcade cab. It is for ascetic purposes only so it doesn't need to work - or have all the guts of a real coin door. I've checked around on ebay and happ for a bit, but l was wondering if anyone had any ideas on places l might be able to find a dirt cheap coin door that l could slap on the front of my cab to finish off the look?

I don't know what you consider cheap but to me this is not a bad price:

I believe divemaster (a member here) sells them and might have a better deal on the shipping than buying it directly from happ.

Hi ivwshane,

Thank you for your response. I've found those on Happs site as well and might end up going  with one of them; but l was just hoping that someone might have some ideas on where l could find one for next to nothing. (never hurts to ask :)

I'll shoot divemaster a PM and see if he has anything, thanks for the info!

Regards,

ivwshane

The problem with used ones is that if you do find one for cheap, it most likely will need to be refurbished which means it will need to be stripped, sanded, and repainted. If you don't mind putting in the work and time then you might end up saving some money but the supplies alone will be a tad less then buying the one I posted.

Very good point ivwshane, l hadn't event thought about that aspect of it. I think you are right l may just go for the Happ one. I have sent a PM to divemaster and l'll see if he has anything he can sell me.

Thanks again!

I've gotten all of mine from eBay or local sellers.

Post a WTB in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum and see if someone here has a cheap coin door lying around.

It is true that many people do a full resto job on used coin doors. In most cases (e.g. unless there has been physical damage to the door) I have chosen to just clean it up, mask off the inserts and hit it with some hammered metal finish spray paint. And they come out just fine.
