« on: January 23, 2009, 01:30:00 am »
Has any made a master list of these type of games? I've been trying thru klov, but it's a PITA.

Thanks, ctozzi, but I realized I didn't explain my request.

I'm making a panel similar to this one (minus the 4-way on top) so I'm looking for a list of games that were meant to be played on it...Player Vs. Player fighter games.
dual 8-ways with 6 buttons.

I've seen enough of these panels made on this sight. I figured someone must have a list...
I tried, unsuccessfully, thru KLOV and Mala searches.

do a deluxe search on MAWS...

http://www.mameworld.net/maws/

under Category, select Fighter / Versus

that should get you a pretty good list

Try here http://www.mameworld.net/maws/ and search Fighters

EDIT: severdhed beat me to it!

The list is huge but there are TONS of repeats because every version of a particular game is listed.  You should be able to pare it down in 10 minutes or so.

Probably want to set the resource type to parents to cut the list in half.

Also, you could use romlister, and catlist to do the same search and output whatever list format you want.  (The biggest problem with Maws is it doesn't output in nice lists.)

Or you could look for 6 button games, or 6 button + fighter games, in either Maws or romlister.  Romlist is more flexible in searches than Maws, such as search for 5 & 6 button fighter games in one search.

You found another of maws' weaknesses.  Maws can only list one input type per game, even if the game had two types.  Wacko is another example: it used a trackball to move the player and a joystick to shoot, but maws lists it as a double 4 way joystick game.  This is partially mame's driver's fault: the game uses one (the left) joystick of the doublejoystick type input, and trackball.  Maws DB looks for the first controler type from mame's -listxml output, and there is a specific order they are listed, with digital joysticks before TBs.

Mame's centiped driver has both joystick and TB, and even though its the TB that's the real input, do to Maws single input limit and mame's -listxml output order, centiped is listed as a joystick game.

This is another area where romlister is better, as you can look for all games with TB only, or TB + joystick, or TB + anyother input.

How does RomLister find Mortal Kombat games? I checked Upright, 8-way joysticks, Gameplay buttons 6 or less, Catagory=fighter, Misc=no clones, playable checked.

Street fighter, etc. show up with the above settings.

I guess the category for MK is what I need.?

edit: I'll try to find more info in the software forum
