Will the U-Trak work with the Opti-Wiz?
« on: January 21, 2009, 10:23:47 am »
Hey guys, this may be a stupid question, but i need to know if the utrak trackball will work with the optiwiz interface?  I need a new trackball, and the utrak looks like it will be the best option for me, due to the mounting with the trim bezel.  however i am using u360s for my button interface, and there arent quite enough..so i would like to have 3 mouse buttons.  i know ultimarc has a USB interface for the utrak, but it does not support mouse buttons.  the optiwiz from GGG is about the same price, and supports mouse buttons...so it seems like the right choice...but i just want to make sure they are compatible.  all info i can find seems to indicate that all will be good (other than needing to make a custom wire harness)...but i was hoping someone could confirm that before i buy the stuff.

Well...

AFAIK, the ultimarc USB interface does support buttons; basically it's an U-HID Nano, which has enough pins and the ability to do 3 buttons on a trackball (including power & ground).  But the optiwiz should work fine also.

i just got an email from Andy..the Utrak optional usb interface does not support mouse buttons...the U-HID does..however it is more expensive...so once again i am leaning towards an optiwiz
