How to setup spinner in mame?
« on: January 19, 2009, 03:34:51 pm »
Hi,

I am just getting back to my mame project after building the control panel last year. I am using a GGG TB and spinner via USB connections. I am trying to adjust the settings on the spinner (I assume I'll have the same question on the TB) and am not having any luck searching for info on how to do this.

I have the trackball as the x and y axis and the spinner as the z axis for the mouse. I have made a custom CFG file for the control panel but don't run any custom INI files at this point.

Where can I find the commands/syntax to make adjustments to the TB and spinner and where should these changes be written? the INI files, CFG files, somewhere else?

I am using Mala for my front end.

All help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Chad

Is your spinner seen by your computer as a mouse?
Tempest, for example:

From Mame's games list right-click on Tempest. Go to Properties/Controllers/Enable mouse input and check the box.

Start up Tempest and go to TAB/Analog Controls. From there you can control speed and sensitivity, etc.

Hi,

Yes, I have the spinner set as the mouse z-axis. I tried Arkanoid and I think 4 ticks of the spinner would move the paddle from one side of the screen to the other, obviously way too much movement per click! I'll go the route you suggest and report back my results!

Thanks!
Chad

Thanks! That was the trick!! Now all I need to do is find the settings that keeps my TT2 spinner from looking like it is having a seisure every time I move it!

Does Windows see your TT2 spinner as a mouse? You can also change the mouse speed from the Control Panel/Mouse/Pointer Options if you need to slow it down.

I had to do a combo of Mame/Windows before I got Tempest working right. No more backspin problems!

And would also like to add that if you are using the TT2 with the Z-Axis, you have to recompile your own Mame using the .diff file from u_rebelscum.  Follow this link for more details.
