Lighting up transparent buttons... Would this work
« on: March 05, 2002, 10:36:09 am »
I've been looking at all the transparent button stuff recently.  And I just came up with an idea.

How about using christmas lights.  The expensive ones that flash and have different controls for different orders?  (especially since they run in parallel and you can remove the ones you dont' want).

the idea is this.  Swap all my buttons with transparent ones.  Then also add some lightbright bulbs around the cabinet and marquee, ect if desigered, or something similar.

Then take the fancy dial driven christmas lights and tape, or force them next to each button.  Take out the bulbs I'm not using.

Seems like a good way to add some flash to the cabinet.

I started thinking about it wondering how to hack a second leaf switch that would turn on a led so the buttons would light up.  But I didn't want to add power to my keyboard encoder by accedent it the two leafs touched and decided against that idea.

anyway, just a fun way to make our wifes hate our cabinets even more :)

Hey,
Check out Rick's project from the examples page.   http://home.carolina.rr.com/rmartinko/mame.htm .
He used translucent buttons and stuck a fluorescent bulb in the control panel.
It might not be what you were talking about, but I like it.
