Sound works on MAMEpc, not not cab speakers? *solved*
« on: January 13, 2009, 06:43:51 pm »
I have a SEGA Megalo 410 cab that has it's own set of (rather robust) speakers.  The machine also has a set of RCA jacks (red/white) to get sound from games like the CPS2 boards.  I know the speakers work because I was able to connect a CPS2 game to it and get perfect sound.  When I connect my MAMEpc, I use a standard HeadPhone Jack to RCA Jack Y-Splitter from RadioShack, and get zero sound.  I checked the volume knob of course, and I get nothing.

I figured maybe the onboard sound card on the system had an issue but if I hook up a set of earphones to it, I get sound.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

Well I'm not real sure about your setup but more than likely your motherboard is feeding out a line level signal that would need to be amplified to drive your speakers.

Well, that does make sense but as far as I know the CPS2 pcbs don't have amps, and it worked. Also, I think the cab itself has one inside of it.

I emailed a fellow Megalo owner, I'm waiting on his reply as well.

Everyone look away please. I don't want to be shamed.

I figured out my 'problem'.  I had forgotten that when I first got the cab, I had removed the marquee which is connected to the speakers. I put it back on one evening and I guess I didn't re-connect the SPEAKER WIRES that power the speakers!

Christ. Now it's working and I get nice and purty sound.
