rf topgun behind plexiglas , will this work?
« on: January 12, 2009, 12:29:44 pm »
if i would buy a rf topgun would it work with plexi ?

3mm thick plexi that is.

and i would remove the leds and drill holes in the tv bezel on the same spots and place the leds in there.

and with 25 inch tv , how far do i need to stand

quote from the manual :

Note : 1. The distance between the TopGun and the screen should be 2-3 times of the distance between the two LED
stands. (for LED stands mounted beside the screen)

what do you guys think

I have my Topgun LED's behind slightly tinted glass.  It works fine.  As long as your LED's are visible, you should not have a problem.

Just test out the spacing before you mount them permanently.

I might add, you should consider wiring in a switch to be able to turn off the LED's so that they last longer.  It is not hard to do and will greatly extend the life of the LED's.

Good luck.

Yes.  I mostly play area51 but it is fun.  That being said, I am planning on converting a shooting cab to a dedicated shooter based on a PS2.  Better game selection and easier to use.

I'm using the ems topgun II behind tinted glass. Everything is fine, but maybe its a little tough to get the gun working for nonmame games. PC Games like House Of The Dead 3 and Virtua Cop 2 are the most played lightgun games on my cap.

I'm still excited about the upcoming release of elsemis sega model 2 emulator, which will feature dual mouse/lightguns support for the original House of the Dead and Virtua Cop 1 and 2.
That's gonna ROCK!

Zelony -

I just got the RF Topgun, and I am struggling to set it up.  Maybe you have some tips?

I have the driver installed and it shows up in the windows device manger.  I can calibrate fine as per the instructions.  But I don't get anything happening on the PC.  the mouse doesn't move (I do have a normal mouse on this PC already, btw) and inside mameplus at the game controls screen, when i try to change any function to a button on the gun nothing changes.  So it seems no data is being received by the pc.  In MamePlus I have enabled lightgun support and mouse support and multiple mice support.

Is there a good test program just to see the gun buttons working etc?

Are there any lights in your room which could interfere with the guns camera? Try to switch off the lights.

If this doesn|t work, then it should be a windows/driver problem. I suggest reinstalling the guns completely.
The mouse pointer doesn't move, but do the gun buttons in the topguns configuration utillity blink, when you press them? = or in other words are the buttons working as left and right mouse clicks in windows?

I literally had to repeat the calibration steps at least 6 times in a row.  Each time it would get a little mor accurate.  That being said, after the second attempt I was able to move the mouse around in Windows, although it was erratic.

It seems that some times it stays in calibration mode.  Just keep repeating the steps in the Wikipedia site here at ArcadeControls http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/LCDTopGun and you should get it.
