Help my led wiz isn't working (ok now its not working for real)
« on: January 07, 2009, 03:51:05 am »
I've been wiring my panel and testing it as I go along and it has been working fine. I started wiring my rgb drives and I did a test on one of them and it worked.
I wired up two of them and they also both worked, I get to the third and it wouldn't light up and neither would the other two, I double check everything and even tried using two other led wiz boards and I get nothing:o

Are there supposed to be drivers for these devices? What do they show up as in device manager?

UPDATE: see post 3

Never mind.

I rebooted my computer and it works again.

Ok so I finished wiring player 1 and it works perfect. I've moved onto player twos controls and leds and the very first rgb drive I install does not work with my second led wiz.
I tested the rgb on the first led wiz and it works fine. My computer recognizes the led wiz (version 2) but I can't get it to work even after rebooting my system.

I'm currently running it off of usb but will switch to external once everything is working.

This is how I currently have it hooked up. Am I doing anything wrong?

Are you using 3rd party software to support the 2nd LED Wiz?

Quote from GGG site: "Note: The beta "resident" software currently supports device #1 only. Additional devices are currently offered for use with 3rd party or user created applications (see below.)"

Doh! Ok so what program can I use for now to just test it out? I found some on that page but it either requires me to program something or it doesn't work and gives me an error when I try to launch the program.

Use LEDBlinky. Program and documentation DL links in [this] thread.

Config your LED Wiz's as per the documentation a and open the animation editor. Put some LEDs in position on the screen and map them to the LED ports (is simple to do by following the documentation).

You should then be able to select the LEDs and then run the inbuilt LED Wiz blinking effects from the EDIT menu.

You can program sequences but doing the above will make the LEDs light without having to program anything.

Its not half as bad as it sounds :)

Arzoo provided very clear and concise documentation that walks you through it.  :applaud:

It's a no go:(

Player 1 (led wiz device 1) works just fine but player 2 (led wiz 3) does nothing:(

I'm going to try a gp wiz I have and see what that does.

The led wiz + gp works (device 2).

I don't know what to do or what the problem is.

I think you just found it.  Does LED-Wiz #2 work when the LED-Wiz+GP #2 is unplugged?

Both the LED-Wiz and LED-Wiz+GP use the same device numbers in order to provide compatibility with existing LED-Wiz compatible software.  You would need a device #3 if you already have a device 1 and 2.  This is only the case with the LED-Wiz and LED-Wiz+GP boards.

Here is what I have:

Led wiz (dev 1), Led wiz + gp (dev 2), and led wiz (dev 3).

One and two work fine (together) but 3 wont work at all.

I shouldn't have to have 1 and 2 plugged in before 3 will work right?

This is why device manager shows:

Ok, I got a bit confused with the references to "second LED-Wiz " and "Player 2".  Sorry about that.

So no, you shouldn't be having any issues with all of them connected at the same time, UNLESS you are pulling too much current through your USB port.  If you have too many devices on a USB port, additional devices may refuse to function.

To make sure this isn't the issue, you can try the device out on a second computer, or on different USB port (not connector, but PORT.  Most computers have at least 2 ports with more than one connector per).

If Device number 3 works when neither of the others are connected, this would be a good indicator of this type of issue.

RandyT

*edit*

If the PC sees the device, it should work.  This points to a wiring problem.  Suspect the common 5v source connection to your devices.

With only one led wiz (dev 3) connected it still doesn't work. I also tried connecting only one rgb drive to it and having it's common 5v connected directly to the led wiz's 5v and still a no go.

The first led wiz (dev 1) is version 1, led wiz (dev 3) is version 2, do I need to do anything with the bank voltage select?

It's probably best to continue this in email.  While we test all of the boards 100% before being shipped, anything is possible after they go in the box.  I have a feeling the solution is going to be a simple one based on what I have heard so far, but  for me to find it "long distance" could take some time.

I checked my wiring one last time and this time it worked :banghead:

I don't know why it didn't work the first time I checked it but at least it works now and I can finally finish this thing!

Thanks again randy, with all the help you have given me it makes me feel good that I bought from you!!
