Hallmark Cards

While I was out to the local Walgreen's to pick up some cards, I found that Hallmark Shoebox Greetings has some arcade themed audio cards.  Galaga, Pacman and Tetris.  I tried to locate some images to attach to this post but to no avail (besides, we all know what Galaga, Pacman and Tetris look like ;) )  They play the game start audio.  Kind of neat!   :applaud:

I saw the Pacman one at Walgreens the other day. I wasn't aware there were more.

Thing I want to know is, what manufacturer or distributor do these card makers get the audio unit off of, and is it Eprom or Rom made in factory. Would be a fun gag item to slip into someone's book and give a custom message. :D (Imagine slipping one of these halfway through a book and have it say in a raspy voice "We know where you live, Mr/Ms xxxx" ;)

How much are these things, anyway?

Ive seen those record-your-own versions in Wal Mart. I've always been tempted to record something into random cards on the shelf, but I wasn't sure if the recording was permanent or not...

I had the same thought, but I think the card makers have headed us off.  I saw a tab on the card that you needed to remove to make the greeting last (semi-)permanently.  Otherwise the recorded greeting plays back only once, or gets wiped after some short amount of time.   I guess you could remove the tab, but the hallmark police might be watching!
