EMS Topgun II Calibration Issue :-(
« on: January 01, 2009, 04:43:22 pm »
I am having calibration issues with a new Topgun II. I have a 42inch Dynex LCD and have tried the sensor bars mounted horizontally and vertically. When mounted horizontal, then mouse doesn't know what direction to go in and moves very erratic. I calibrated according to the manual (ABCDE order). When the bars are mounted vertically, I can get somewhat of a response in the direction i move the gun. If I move even one or two inches forward from the point i calibrated at, the mouse will move erratically and go in random directions. When I am calibrating the gun recoils and the red dot does not blink at me. This should indicate there is no IR interference. I have tried both the EMS and Smog drivers and they both do the same thing.

I also have a 19 inch lcd that I test it on. It seems to work a little better but I have to stand so far away I can barely see it. Even with the smaller monitor the mouse movevement is really shaky. I have tried standing as far as 10 feet away from the 42 inch lcd and it still seems to do the same thing. Any suggestions?

I am using Windows XP sp2 and just trying to get the mouse arrow to move correctly before trying to play any games. Also, I have tried unplugging all other mouse devices and same result.

Do some searching through the forums.. the Top Guns are, at best, iffy.  I have never gotten mine on a LCD screen to act correctly.

I searched last night and tried about everything I could find but nothing seemed to help.  I have also tried to tape up my IR sensor on the tv and turned off all the lights and tried at night, still same thing. I guess I could try on a crt and see what happens or on my DLP...

Is there another lcd compatible lightgun out there? I couldn't find anything.

When I first got my Topgun II's, I set them up on my regular PC and they worked just fine. I hooked them up to my cabinet (crt monitor) and after a few times of calibrating they worked perfectly. BUT then I screwed things up and had to attempt to recalibrate and I still can't get them working.

Mine do the same thing, the pointer randomly jumps around the screen and no matter what resolution I use, where I shoot the screen, I just can't get it to work.

I did notice that where I shoot the screen makes a difference. I'm going to keep trying to get it calibrated, but any help from you guys would be appreciated.

I fixed yuff's problem with this. It was as simple as turning off his ceiling fan! I guess the wind was bouncing around the IR waves? ???

If that is the case... then there is little hope for these guns.

I paid full price for two of the version 1 models... NEVER got them to work worth a crap and sold both for less than the price of one.

I wish everyone luck...but for God's sake.... how many horror stories does it take?

People keep buying these?

The problem I think is the fan+light on the fan combo. I turned the fan back on after jozhua left, and it still worked fine. The fan was probably bouncing some weird reflections onto the lcd screen. It really works great now!
