For some reason I was expecting a cross between Defender and throwing shoes at George Dubya! But the sound effects are hilarious!

lol.

I tried it at work without sound, waiting for the guys on the ground to throw shoes
at my ship.   Then I thought maybe the baddies would turn into a shoe... then, since none
of that happened... I looked closer at the ship,  but it didnt really resemble a shoe.

Finally, I turned on the sound.   :)

Hahahahah. I think that's pretty hilarious. Hard, though. And no hyperspace. And it don't look like a shoe at all. They should've really made it look like a tennis shoe, profile.

You know, I still think a hack for Defender where the stick control behaves like in the Atari port, might be better. Maybe there is one? I'll have to look.

This is GREAT!  I wonder if I can get it working full screen in on my cab?  I tried quickly and you loose collision if the screen size changes.  looks like the size is passed in as a variable.  So modifying the page...

Can't you just remap the controls in MAME to act like the Atari port?

No, because unlike the Atari version, the arcade version doesn't have left and right; only a button to reverse direction.

Exactly. Which means it would switch every time you push a direction to thrust.

I'm pretty sure that there used to be a "cheat" code that enabled the game to behave in that way. However, I'm not sure whether the cheat code that I'm referring to still works with the most up to date version of MAME.

I wonder if someone could contact the original authors and see if they can get a version that works full screen, and has a reverse button instead of left/right.

They might do it, just to think of it sitting in a real defender cab one day.
