nintendo VS Uni
« on: December 29, 2008, 07:49:42 pm »

I want Input.
1st of all. i have a Barn full of empty cabs. vertical and horizontal.
all 2 player size
7 total.
I have a MsPac for vertical
I have all the crap to put her together.
but lets skip her for now.
I also have a few horizontal cabs also.
I have all the crap to slam them together also
(been collecting for years)
Track ball. spinner, tron stick , 2 xenophobe sticks, Bla bla bla.
This is the cab I have in the house right now.
It has 2 panels.
two 8 way joy sticks per panel
2 action buttons per person
a small row of buttons (on each panel vertical of 4. 1 blue, 1 green , 1 purple , 1 green) ( I have this on both sides)
I am thinking player 1 , 2,  start
player 1, 2 coin
pause
esc
(that is if I go with 2 PCs and Two arcade cabs in one)
or would you make this a 4 player system?

I have 6 Controll panels total
I can screw up a few before I find the best set up.
I have thought of side 1 horizontal side 2 vertical with 2 PCs
I have thought of  2 vertical cabs  with 1 PC
(I have a few Video cards that will let me have more than one monitor)
or a 4 player system and if not 4 palyer game running side A player 1 and 3 side B player 2 and 4
that way if it is a 2 player game the 2 persons have plenty of room to move around. A whole cab to move with your own screen

come on guys.
40 reads and no answer?
I have been leaning to a 4 person horizontal with 3 buttons each.
I found this thread.
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=16101
it has a list of 4 player games.

How about you restore it back to a VS cabinet?  BTW...it's not a VS Unisystem...that would be the single monitor Nintendo "DK Jr/DK" conversions.   At least keep it stock looking...4 sticks 2 buttons each.

I'm trying to get exactly what you wanted to do. Was one of your options making 1 side vertical and the other side horizontal?

no need to restore it.
It works 100% now
It never gets played. Nintendo games are not that fun any more.
also I have more CPs. I could put it right back if need be. The CPs that is.
once I yank the monitors for 2 flat screens the Nintendo monitors are out of hear.

yes. 2 PCs in side each side a differant cab
I forgot to mention
The joystics are 8 way.
can not be changed to 4 way ( not that I know of)
The foot print on CP is to small for larger joysticks

You can swap out the restrictor plates on Nintendo sticks. Someone repro'd the 4-way restrictors a while back. Perhaps someone has a set or two floating around.

Bumping this with links to info about 4-way Nintendo sticks/restrictors.

My comments referred to FS: Now Available - Nintendo 4-way Restrictor plates, which is an old thread, but I also notice that the following are currently available:

Nintendo 4-way Restrictor plates from Mike's Arcade

Reproduction DK 4-way joystick from Mike's Arcade

I've purchased from both parties before and had nothing but great experiences.

the above links .
changes things.
I did not know I could do 4 way!
2 PCs
1 side horizontal 2 player 8 way  2 button
1 side vertical 2 player 4 way 2 button
seems the best way to go
I only have 1 set of new controll panel over lays.
I will see how the best set up is before I put them on.

You may only select up to 5 options.
   ???

I already voted, but that statement in your original poll post kinda defeats the purpose of a "poll" if you can choose ALL the options.

Oh and BTW, that's an MDS cabinet. (dual system)
Which is still considered a VS. cabinet of sorts. (housed VS. games)
One board.... two games.
And also had a few games that would utilize both monitors. (one game, two monitors)
Same principal as the "Red Tent" cocktail units.
The MDS boards are also commonly found in single cabinets with only one side populated with ROM's to run just a single game in a standard fashion.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Sorry, I was undecided. You presented several options and a few of them sounded good. You're getting to do something I've been wanting to do, though I hadn't thought of all the choices until you brought them up. One PC with two horizontal monitors sounds great for fighting and beat 'em ups. Four player setup sounds good, but most the time you won't have four players. 2 PCs one vert, one horizontal sounds great, but you could also do 1 PC with a vert and horizontal and switch which panel you stand at (however this limits gameplay to player one and two standing at the same CP).

Very tough decision to make...
