Looky what I saw at Sam's Club today!
« on: December 26, 2008, 02:17:22 pm »
I was shopping around for Wii accessories, and found this:

... only ~$1500.

So a leper walks into a bar and as he gets his beer, a finger falls off. The bartender who is serving him turns and pukes all over the place. The leper, feeling bad, says, "Was it my finger falling off?" The bartender turns to him and says, "No, it's the guy dipping chips into your back."

Check out the video:

... um, the one in the video is black, and has a backlit marquee .. I only saw the 1970's-looking-wood-finish version in the store, no marquee  ???

Why the hell would you use that machine to hook it up to your TV? lol

Just plug the console in directly.   :laugh2:

Quasimodo's do have a few cool things... too bad they don't sell it directly.

1st, I think its one of the nicest mass market direct to home users cabinet out there.  Think about it... It doesn't have a single picture containing 100 different classic arcade images...  let alone on every flat surface!.  Natural wood is MUCH better for most people then an ultracade.

2nd.  Its controllers work with basically every console (but wii I think??  didn't check).  So you plug you consoles in, one switch, and everything works.  Pretty nice in that reguard.

3rd.  They have a 256 position buttons..  Yes, standard arcade buttons with 256 levels of detail (for the top buttons on some consoles).  Think how nice they would be for pinball flippers... Wish they would sell them directly..

All in all... I think these are actually better for most people then the ultracade.... Then again... I don't see the need for ultracades at home (*your paying for licenses you will never use... what ultracades are good for)...

But worse ever?  I wouldn't say so at all.  Best?  Nope... Decent little arcade specifically for consoles... best out there?   Maybe... (they would have to send me a unit, and I would write up a nice review)

I've played with two of quasimoto's controllers (diff cabs) at two separate outlets and they feel really flimsy to me.  Especially with those dual analog ps2-like sticks for consoles.  I never thought I'd say this but the x-arcade sticks and buttons feel better than these things.

The "dad" looks way too into the game. Looks like he is having seizures.

Cool concept, poor execution. Seriously, $1500+? BTW, who the hell would have that next to their TV yet alone use the external TV feature?

And Quasimoto? Really? ... Really?

Not to mention it is rather small.  Some may like that though.

I have to say it does have some interesting 'features' but for anyone on this site I'd also say this wouldn't be their cup of tea.

Probably the most notable thing I keyed on was the price tag.  At just over $1500 I can see casual arcade players with expendable income being interested in this.  Most baby boomers grew up with local arcades and have fond memories of them, however they typically don't know about sites like this... so they are the primary target market for this.

What I really like about these machines and the fact they show up in brick and mortar stores now and then (I've seen several arcade machines in Sams over the past couple of years including the FX) is that they spark an interest of actually owning an arcade machine to some people that may never have thought of owning one before.

I do like the selector switch idea a lot!

I'm in. Why put a slick white computer and a TFT screen in something that looks like granny's undie cabinet, a belgian beer bar or a lederhosendispenser? Dark Oak stinks beyond the cumulation of all that has ever stinked on earth before!

$29.60 per game if the hardware was free...seems like a decent deal...
$17.60 per game considering $1500 for the hardware...seems like a decent deal...
