Strength of woodfiller?
« on: December 24, 2008, 10:12:01 am »
I'm in the process of giving my ghetto stand-alone control panel a makeover. I hve countersunk the carriage bolts that fix the joysticks to the panel.

I used Ronseal woodfiller to fill the countersinking, and ensured before doing so that I had tightened the bolts up so they wouldn't move during setting. Except in hindsight I'd have been better to actually fit the lower half of each stick too. So now I have to remove the nuts and fix the joystick in place and am worried that the woddfiller won't be strong enough and that any slight lateral movement of the carriage bolt will ruin the top surface of the CP.

Has anyone got any experience with this in the hope that I'm worrying over nothing?

Thanks

I, personally, have not had good luck with wood filler other than to make a rough surface smooth.

A lot of people here have been using bondo and I haven't heard any complaints about it.

I didn't consider bondo as assumed it was available only in the states. Two-part filler has been suggested, but I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

It's all about priorities ;)
