hi. i was browsing on newegg.com and saw that they sold refurb parts as well as new parts. i know people have bought from newegg, so i want to know how reliable are theyre refurbs? they have great prices i would hate to pass up. thanks in advance.

I've never bought one of their refurbs but in general give newegg thumbs up...

*shrug* I'd check the fine print regarding RMA authorization limited warranties and such... but newegg on the whole has seem upstanding to me.

So that didn't really answer your question though, sorry...

newegg is a great online reseller. refurb parts as a whole are kinda potluck. you could be getting a product that the original buyer just didn't want and decided to return or a lemon. if your going to risk buying a refurb newegg would be on the short list of places to go. you could also try compgeeks as well. they deal in a lot of refurb stuff and are trustworthy.

another tip. for those guys who have purchased from newegg and had a good experience.  write them an email and tell tham thanks. you will most likely receive a little thank you present from them, t-shirt, pen, maybe some stickers.
nothing major but it's a nice gesture from them.

I buy from both newegg and compgeeks and could recommend either one.

One word of caution on TV-out video cards from newegg:
I had a bad experience on this one.  I bought a powered by ATi video card they had for like $35.  I spent hours trying to get it to work with my TV only to find out it was a PAL only card!!  I confirmed it by cross checking the part number over the phone with the actual card manufacturer (sapphire I think).
When I returned the card to newegg they fought me on it saying the card worked fine.  I pushed back cause the product did not function as advertised (since they are a US retailer and we are obviously NTSC).
They did eventually give me my money back.  I quit buying from them for a little while after that, but their prices are too darn good.
Now I buy my video cards Built by ATi only and from major chains.
