Hello, I have lurked on this board periodically for many years.  I have watched it grow and gain depth while occasionally fantasizing about owning an arcade machine and having Google at my disposal.  Many times I have found myself going to the Project Announcement forum and browsing through the many posts and drooling over the pictures.  Always thinking that one day I will have the time and $$$ to focus the inspiration that this board has given me into a project of my very own.

That time is near!

I have worked out a trade on a cab that I saw on Craigslist.  I'll be trading some speakers that I don't use for a Street Fighter II C.E. cabinet.  By the pics I would say that this is a conversion and in need of some TLC.  I am not versed enough in original cabinets to know what  this would have been prior.  I will post the pics that I have tomorrow.   However this is a great way to start.   Maybe once this is all said and done I will need to find a way to sustain the "affliction" and build one from scratch.

Two days ago I ordered Saint's book.  I find that my anticipation is now starting to build now that the first baby steps towards owning an actual Arcade Game!!!!!!!!!  (! = indicates level of excitement).   I can't wait for it to be delivered so I can start reading.   I have decided to enjoy SFII until I have completed all of my research, starting with "teh book".

Anyway, my laptop battery is almost dead.  I will post the continuance of this thought/thread as soon as possible.  Given that Christmas is in a couple of days, it may not be tomorrow that I add the rest of my post :)

Cheers and Merry Christmas to everyone,

Triton

I was in your exact position about 6 months ago.  Recently moved into a new house, had my game room finally, had gotten my book and was searching for a empty cabinet or arcade machine that needed a lot of TLC.

I found what I wanted, fixed it up and it is now sitting in my game room playable.  I just found my second cabinet a Mortal Kombat II that was converted to NFL Blitz 99.  I learned a great deal with my first build and will use that knowledge on this second one.  This one is to allow me the things I was not able to do with my first cabinet, trackball, more buttons, spinners.

So yes, more than likely you will be come consumed, obsessed and poorer.  I spent some of the hottest months here in Texas, in my garage with no AC working on my cabinet.  Something even I did not imagine doing, but there was always one more thing I wanted to work on, fix, finish, etc.  Please posts some pictures when you can and also create a thread in the projects area.

definately will post an official thread and frequent pics once started.    The UPS man delivered my book today.  I'm on the 3rd chapter so far, had to put down the book because my reading glasses are at work.

Even though the sections I am in don't pertain to my project as much, it is still enlightening to read about the step by step process.   I've already toyed with the notion of a 2nd machine in the house.  One that I built from scratch.   But, I don't want to get ahead of myself as I'm sure this process won't be an easy one.

I am picking up the cabinet on Friday.   I will be able to post pics this weekend.   As well, I'll be able to give it a good look-see to figure out what will need to be replaced.

Merry Christmas,

Triton
