My latest semi-arcade related project
« on: December 22, 2008, 08:49:30 am »
Well, its mostly arcade related. I closed in my garage door yesterday. Once I get an out-building, I will emptying out the garage and converting it into a room/arcade. Why am I not calling it an arcade outright? Because the wife has deemed it more suitable for a family room due to its size. All is not lost though, because that means I get the downstairs living room as my arcade room! This idea is still in flux though, so we will see.

Anyways, here is a pic of the work accomplished.

Nice!  WISH I had that kind of access to my basement. :)

so far all you get is a 'meh'

Post some pics when you get some real progress.  Who cares about doors?   :P  Although I know doors are probably a relatively new concept for you West Virginia folk...   ;D

Nice doors.  I think it would've been better if you had some nice knockers.

My wife has a very nice pair, thank you.

The doors look good, I'd like to see them behind a nice pair of knockers though.  :burgerking:

Show us what it looked like before so we have some context on improvement.

I forgot to take a before picture. There was an ugly ass, broken garage door there before. So imagine a garage door there, and you are good to go.

Oh well that's pretty good then.  Is it fully framed out behind that particleboard?

It is a 2x6 framed wall so I can put in a ton of insulation. It is a west facing wall that gets direct sunlight in the evening and a ton of wind. The next 2 weeks I have to build out the door jamb (standard door jamb), and decide on the least tacky siding materials.

I am torn between going ultra tacky with white vinyl, or using T-111 and painting it a color similar to my brick work.

Do you mean tacky like visually or tacky like sticks on?

I'd probably just put some wooden shingling on and paint it to match the siding up above.

Tacky as in it is gonna look like redneck cheese no matter what I do. Anything short of redoing the whole house will look cheesy.

You could try some 1/2 depth bricks and put a masonry facade on it... I guess that would depend on how much of a color difference there would be with the surrounding bricks.

As you can see in the pic, the brick color is all over the place. I don't see any realistic way to tie the wall into the existing brick work w/o it standing out.

I suppose I could get an estimate from a local brick place and see if they can match it.

Decided to go with white T111 siding on the garage.

Phase II of operation gameroom was also taken care of today. I just ordered an 8'x12' storage building with a loft.

After 2 weeks of delays, I FINALLY got my shed. The cold weather and delay worked out good though. Due to the cold weather, they could not get my shed built. They called me and asked if I would be able to take an 8x16 at no extra charge. After measuring, I "Begrudgigly" obliged.  ;) ;)

It was dropped down on Saturday, and now I have several weeks of cleaning/moving stuff to clear the garage and rearrange the whole house.

Pics to come (slowly).
