Optical switches for spinner hack
« on: June 20, 2003, 04:00:27 pm »
I'm trying to build an optical sensor like the one Ultimarc describes here: http://www.ultimarc.com/optipac4.html.
However, I cannot find the specific optical switch he recommends.  There seems to be no Fairchild retailers in my local area (SE Michigan).
On the other hand, I did find this one: http://www.nteinc.com/specs/3100to3199/pdf/nte3100.pdf from NTE which I can buy from my local mom-&-pop electronics store.

Does enyone know if this one would work?

Thanks.

By the way, how do I make a hot link to a website on a word without the url showing in the post?

Don't know how much you've spent so far but you can buy an optics board from oscar for $7.50. http://www.oscarcontrols.com/cgi-bin/cart.pl?DT=1 It's at the bottom. If you haven't bought the parts or can return the ones you have this might be eaiser and cost you about the same.

I was under the impression that those switches cost about $1 each and I only need two.  The board from Oscar costs $7.50 plus shipping unless he agrees to meet somewhere in SE Michigan (he's from around here).

I just called the aforementioned electronics components store and the price for that thing is an astonishing $7.37.  I may go with Oscar's after all.  Maybe he'll agree my picking it up at his place and save me $6.00.
