Switching Sanwa JLW between 4 and 8 way
« on: December 16, 2008, 12:04:36 am »
Whew, it's been a bigger project than i have accounted for--but I put my Sanwa JLW in for player 1 and was wondering how to switch between 4 and 8 way play.  I haven't found any guides online so I figured somebody may know where to look.  Thanks!

There's a clear plastic restrictor plate on the bottom, it has "gear teeth" on the outer rim. You just turn this to switch between them.

Do you have to release the screws first and the fasten them in place once it is rotated??

Yep, just loosen the screws and turn it till it gets to the other slot and then tighten back down again.

Our J-Stik is a Sanwa JLW.
All we do is fit nylon washers under the screw-heads and re-fit the screws with low-strength Locktite. This enables the restrictor to be turned against some resistance, without loosening the screws.
Its a mod you could do with a standard JLW.

Do you have any pics or a tutorial? I'm not understanding exactly how to do this, but it'd be a great alteration!

Remove the machine screws and washers, apply blue Loctite (I wouldn't use red as its permanent) to the screw threads/tapped holes, swap steel washer for nylon washer, screw machine screws back in with the restrictor in place, tighten until the restrictor plate can be moved but is not overly loose. Job done

That's how I would do it anyway  :)
