Inconsistent WinIPAC Programming.
« on: December 14, 2008, 02:08:58 pm »
I have read many postings regarding programming issues using WinIPAC software In an attempt to solve this on my own..  None (so far) have addressed the current issue I

am having.

I have a Mini-PAC interface wired to two joysticks, 14 buttons and one U-Trak trackball.

When I try to program the hardware using WinIPAC software I get inconsistent results.  For example, when I program the P1

Joystik to the standard layout "UP" becomes "LEFT". "DOWN" becomes "RIGHT". "LEFT" becomes "UP".  And "RIGHT" becomes "DOWN".

When I saw this, I thought Okay I can follow that!  Perhaps I should have set the Joystick into the panel 90 degrees clockwise.

So then I proceed to re-program, "UP" is set to "LEFT", "RIGHT" is set to "DOWN", etc....

Confident in my troubleshooting, I test it out only to find another unexpected curveball.   "UP" became "DOWN".  "RIGHT" became

"LEFT" and so on....   Then I followed the same approach a third time only to yiels yet another inconsistent configuration.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....    Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.

Also, the trackball Y-axis has always worked correctly; however, the X-axis is backwards.   Any thoughts outside of tearing

apart the housing?

Much thanks in advance for helping out!

I think you might want to check your wiring to make sure that isn't the culprit.

To switch the direction of the x axis on your trackball all you need to do is switch the 2 data lines on the x axis.

Thanks for the response Popcorrin.

Particularly P1 & P2 Joysticks are giving me these inconsistent problems.  The rest of the CP is fine with the exception of the x-axis on the trackball.    I understand wiring is important but can't you program the input to be whatever you want in the WinIPAC software?

As for your advice on the x-axis issue with the trackball.  The five wires that control the x-axis are hardwired into a plastic connector which connects to the Mini-PAC wiring harness.  I cannot physically switch wires without tearing apart the connector housing.

Are you absolutely sure the wiring is correct on the joysticks? Some people are caught out by the fact the left-hand switch is right, and vice-versa because of the pivoting of the handle. This does not explain why up is left etc, but worth double checking.
Also check the LED on the Mini-PAC so make sure it stays lit, there might be a switch connected to NC which causes all kinds of issues.

On the trackball you probably have one of the trackball connectors going to the spinner harness connector (assuming its a U-Trak). Try the other unused connector.

I received your email and we can continue by email if necessary.

if your using USB try going with the PS2 cable instead mine kept going crazy also until I went from USB to PS2 after that everything was great.

after it is programmed just go into your game or emus key mapping and go with whatever they register as but where you want them.

for the trackball you could just swap the 2 x-axis wires with eachother.
