Request needed badly
« on: June 20, 2003, 01:48:59 am »
I need small pushbuttons, not super small just smaller than the norms (Happs). The momentary contact buttons are crap, dont get em (I should have listened to Bob Roberts!). So does anyone have any suggestions?? I am getting ancy (sp?) to start my cab.

Hey crash... That doesn't make much sense.   Happs pushbuttons oare momentary contact buttons too... it's a general "type" of button not a brand name.

What did Bob say in context?

Why do you need the small buttons? Admin functions in MAME? Other?

Do you not like the little ones available at radio shack or other (better) electronics supply places?

They aren't cheap, but the Atari volcano buttons are small, classy, light up, and look great.  I've used them in several projects.

Soon as I get a digital camera I'll take a pic of them....they are tiny, which I wanted, but very delicate. I asked Bob if he had any and he said that when he went to order some, the salesman advised against it. Don't get me wrong I love the other Happs buttons just not the ones labeled "momentary contact pushbuttons".
Yes Rampy I am using the small buttons for admin. functions and I have not tried Radioshack yet...I will this weekend.
I guess they aren't that bad but the microswitch is built in and it has no spring so it seems cheap. I was gonna put a tiny spring it anyways to make it seem a lil more like the normal pushbuttons but I opened it and broke one lol.

yeah... don't buy 'em from happs...

I'm not saying there good... per say.. but everyone seems to gravitate to these (or the like) from radio shack.. for small concealable admin functions.... *shrug*

They shouldn't need to be too heavy duty as you aren't button pounding... just pausing, shifting, escaping...  etc...

Hmmm...I was looking for something that looked like an ordinary pushbutton from Happs...small, round, diff. colors. I thought I remember someone saying that some Japanese Cabs had smaller buttons, something with the word "Aero"???

well it's not your only option.. just one example, of what I've seen on multitude of cabinets...  the point is... you can walk into an elctronics parts store (a better one than rathack) and find a multitude of different momentary pushbuttons and one is bound to fit your asthetic needs...

Thanks Mike, they look almost exactly like this but the side is a lil different. Mine are made from Sanwa too. I would reorder from Happs but they dont expect a new shipment till July 11th!?!!? So Ill get them from this site, thanks Mike. *EDIT Nevermind they have a 1000 min order.....looks like I wait.
Derek

Ps. Just to double check my work, how much spacing is it between buttons (standard) and how much space is from the joystick to the buttons. Thanks

Spacing between the joysticks and the buttons is a matter of personal preference, but even just 1" is fine.

A Capcom or Neo Geo button layout generally puts the buttons almost touching each other, while a 2 button layout generally puts an inch between the two of them (I am probably the only person who has a two button mame cab though).
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.
