IPAC4 shift key help needed.
« on: December 13, 2008, 09:29:23 pm »
I've set all of my keys in "unshifed mode", I want to set my COIN as Player 1 button / Player 1's button 5.

I also want to set ESCAPE as Player 1/ Player 2's button 5

I for some reason can't figure this out. I go into the SHIFTED KEYS, but do I need to select the "COIN" picture and then press P1 (which is the default shift key, right) and P1's B5 at the same time? Does it know that P1 is the shift button, so all I need to do is just press B5? I've tried all of this, but can't get the "COIN" icon to flash with when entering the keystrokes I want.

Hopefully this made sense, please help A.S.A.P.

Best to go to Table View mode.
Then all you need to do is use the lower half of the table which are the shifted keycodes. Just click on the P1 SW 5, then press the keyboard key for the Coin keycode, which is 5 by default in Mame.
Then click "program board".

ANDY,

I did what you said and that didn't work either. I went into Table view, clicked P1 B5 (in the purple section), it then asked me assign a key to it, so I pressed 5. I then programmed the board and loaded police trainer. I can press the button that I rigged at the bottom of the machine and it will add credits, but when I press P1/B5 nothing happens.  I don't mind using the button I rigged up, but shift keys are still needed and I'd like to know what is going wrong.

Are any shift keys at all working? If not, this could be caused by a shorted input. Can you check the self-test LED at power on. If it flashes a number of times then goes off, there is a shorted input and the number of flashes indicates which one is shorted.
Also check that Start1 is assigned as the shift button, at the top left corner of the table.

Ok the LED flashes 4 times, I went to your website and found the chart, but since I have the USB version of IPAC4, there isn't anything listed in that block, what does this mean?

Its probably Coin 1. Is there a coin door connected?
