Thrustmaster 360 Modena Steering Wheel Help
« on: December 13, 2008, 01:06:24 pm »
I purchased a Thrustmaster 360 Modena Steering Wheel today for just under a fiver but can't figure out how to get it to function in my version 56 command MAME... I've set up an ini and enabled joysticks but whenever I go into the input/TAB menu in MAME to set the keys, the buttons won't input... what am I doing wrong and how do I do this? It shows up in the control panel and all the buttons are working...

Any help or input would be great... bare in mind, I'm a bit new to this!

Thanks! :)

If its helpful... I'm running XP and the device actually shows as '360 Modena Pro' in the control panel... bit odd considering the box doesn't say it's the Pro version...

I'm getting incredibly frustrated with my whole MAME cabinet now - I managed to figure out how to build, get it work, hide windows, get touchscreen to work, function 2 frontends, etc, etc... but all the stuff I think will be simple, LCD topgun(although the more I've read about that, the more I think it shouldn't be on sale) and now this steering wheel are no way as simple as I thought they'd be... in fact, I've spent the last 3 hours looking on the Internet to find out how I can use a USB steering wheel with MAME and I'm no closer than I was in the first place... I think it is great how most things are documented but how to use USB controllers in MAME is very poorly documented... which surprises me...

I have no ctrl folder... I had to create an ini file in prompt which only has enable or disable (0/1) options for the various controls... and I just don't know where to go with this... I'm am truely !@£$ed off with it all... I've spent days trying to get controls to work and got sod all from it... surely it isn't that difficult to use USB PC controls with MAME is it!?

This has been half concluded - using key2joy has made the wheel function within MAME... very good program...

key2joy?  Are you saying the Thrustmaster 360 Modena Steering Wheel normally outputs keycodes for button presses?  Why not just act like a normal game controller and send joystick codes?   :dizzy:

I never would have guessed that.  Glad you got it working

For some reason, even though the wheel shows up as a 'game controller' in Windows... MAME just will not pick it up... I tried loads of different things and then remembered I'd downloaded Key2Joy/Joy2Key/Whatever Way Around It Is! and thought I'd give that a go - and it worked perfectly! The good thing is that I'm going to add more controllers some point anyway, so having this already set up should make it a breeze (hopefully!)
