Cruisn USA
« on: December 10, 2008, 11:35:27 pm »
I am considering the purchase of a sit down style Cruis'n USA thats been upgraded to a Cruis'n World.

Does anyone know if the sit down USA's had force feedback?

The seller has a dozen or so drivers & wont be able to check until Friday afternoon....so I thought maybe some of you would know in the 36 hours that I just cant wait :-)

Shout out to Frizzle as well.......you seemed pretty knowledgeable on dedicated machines....whats your thoughts.

I haven't worked on one in years, but IIRC the Cruisn' series doesn't have force FB.

RUSH, OTOH, does.

Seriously a guy in the STL area has a dozen or so drivers?  Are they all for sale?  Do you know what he has?   Depending on what he is selling these for..................I may be interested as well.........again, though depending on price but maybe he doesnt really have them all up for sale anyway.

A little after my time in the 'cades of yester-year.  While I play it on my MAME,  I've not played a dedicated but maybe a half dozen times since it was put out.  I can't say for sure.  Sorry.

According to the schematics, yes, there is a steering motor.

Now that I think about it, you're right.  It's pretty passive, IIRC.  Which is why I didn't remember there being one.

Thanks guys, I found some more info online & saw under the panel it has a fat motor with a belt so evidently it has forcefeedback.

Flake: Standby bro, at the moment I am waiting for a few answers. I had completed a far from smooth transaction with this person last year so I am now proceeding with caution. I have a feeling its one of those deals "Yeah the monitor sucks, its a conversion with bad artwork, the force feedback doesn't work & someone spliced the power wire back together" kind of thing.

But if it goes smooth, looks like you, myself & another pal will be clearing him out. Dont worry, he has duplicates  ;D

It was a good game, but not one of the greatest. As a technical demo Cruisin' USA came out same time as Killer Instinct, and that really stood out in the arcades. There was a kick ass version of USA in an arcade near me that was a full car on a motion rig (like those roller coaster simulators) and that was fun to play, even if the hudraulics were a little noisy.

Eh its a bust, I just wont put that thing in my gameroom.....its not up to snuff  :'(.

$500, 8 hour round trip, 450 round trip miles to KC & all that for a Cruisn World converted from Cruisn USA that has missing formica, missing artwork torn off (& its USA artwork, not world), very dirty/rusty, monitor burn in & no answer regarding the working status of the force feedback.

I know someone will buy it, its not a horrible deal, if it wasn't going to be sitting on white shag carpet maybe it would have been mine  :dunno.

Weak, I would rather shell out another $250-$350 @ Super Auctions for a newer Cruisn Exotica

Anyway, thanks for the replies everyone.....& Frizzle, get some newer games man  >:D (just kidding, I am jelous of dedicated classics  bro).

To my mind, the Cruis'n series rates as a classic, if only because they are Jarvis games. The man makes stuff that is just too fun not to play.

In fact, it was playing a sitdown Cruis'n USA while visiting a (disgustingly rich) friend of my uncle's that convinced me that I could, and should, have arcade games in the house. If only he had seen fit to give me that cab!

Did you go to the last Super Auction?  I couldnt stick around to see how much the drivers went for so I was wondering what your basis was for that price range on that particular machine.  They did have a Cruisin Exotica at the last auction.

I have yet to go to a SA but you can bet I will be at all of them in the future.

My "personal" price point estimates were determined by watching non BIN auctions (completed with bids) on ebay for the last 6+ months.

Driving arcades are a battle for me, I mean they are so friggin cool but at the same time cost me lots of sq ft of game space, lots of money & really clutter up my room..........but not having one sucks.......& having just one sucks......3 shouldn't suck at all. Thats dork mathematics, time dilation formulas have nothing on my arcade equations of insanity in 5 dimensions with 3 racers @ lightspeed.

I need a larger house & more money.

Perhaps congress will vote on a $15b "pinballwizard's" game room bail out?

3 racers? I couldn't imagine. I'd would only have it 2 or 4. Then I could have one of those sweet toppers that light up whichever side was in first...
