Pioneer PD-M40 Cd Player Transistor - Rowe Jukebox
« on: December 08, 2008, 02:39:09 pm »
I'm trying to get a CD player working in a Rowe Combo unit.  It's a Pioneer PD-M40.  I just had it working and I did a boneheaded move and burned out a transistor (at least I hope that's all it is).

I don't have the schematic.  I can get it, but it will cost me more than the thing is worth.

The only markings on the transistor is:   A1399 and below that it looks like 71E.   This probably from the late 80's.

I took it to a local electronics shop and they couldn't find a comparable part.   Does anyone know what I could use to replace this?

A1399 = 2SA1399

MCM Electronics has 2SA1399 transistors for about 30 cents each.

Thanks Ken!  You are a wonderful source of information!

Is their website www.mcmelectronics.com?   I tried that part and it didn't give me any results.

Yeh that's their website (without the question mark).

My 2007 hardcopy of their catalog has that transistor in it. I'll go over to my friend's house later and check out the new catalog that just came a few days ago for it.

It's possible you might have to call MCM and talk to a live person about this transistor.

Have you checked Newark, Digi-Key, Mouser, and Allied Electronics for this transistor?

Thanks for your help Ken (Again! you are the man!)

I got a transitor, that I think is a good replacement, however I must have damaged more than just that in the player.   At this point it's probably easier to buy a replacement unit on eBay and start over.
