trying to run mame .124 on mac osx
« on: November 29, 2008, 11:08:18 pm »
I'm attempting to set up mame on a mac osx laptop, but it's not reading roms, and when I try to set up a roms folder, the mame folder claims that I'm not allowed to modify the folder. Here's the download I used. If there's something better to use, please tell me.

(NOTE: the person who will be using this setup is a very casual computer user. Simpler is better.)

Sounds like the mame folder is read only.  Try to change it to read-write or writable (I don't use macOS so I don't know the details, but this page, first I googled, might help if you change the to the mame folder).

Can we get some more details? Which version of MAME did you install, MAME OS X or SDLmame? Let's start with that question...

If it's just a matter of changing the permissions on the folder, it's a simple solution. Go into the finder and select the folder that you can't modify and control click (or right click) and select get info. at the bottom of the info window there is a section called "Sharing and Permissions", make sure that it's set to Read & Write. If everything is greyed out, click on the little lock icon and enter your password.
