I need a recommendation on new buttons
« on: November 27, 2008, 06:22:54 pm »
I have seen people with illuminated buttons, I bought an X-Arcade Tankstick for my control panel (hopefully I will be brave enough to make my own next year!).  I am wanting to replace the buttons with illuminated quality buttons, but would definitely appreciate any other recommendations as well!  I just put in new microswitches (a free upgrade from a friend) so now I have a better sound/feel; but the buttons feel cheap.

Happy thanksgiving everybody!

Sardu, that looks perfect!  It says it is designed for the LED-Wiz...so as far as installation goes would I plug it in as a normal button; then wire it separately to the LED-Wiz for power/light designs?  I've never worked on anything like this before, but think this would definitely be worth the money! :-)

but the buttons feel cheap.

Isn't an illuminated button cheap by design?
My recommendation is opaque Japanese buttons. The convex ones. They look the best.

After doing some research and talking with some members of this forum, I think I may be better served getting the stones to make my own custom control panel.  Since I'll be doing the wiring anyways (something I was scared to attempt) I may as well add the features I want.  I tried using the software from mameroom on a custom controller kit, but have not decided on anything yet.  I can't find a thread or anything on google, does anybody know if there are designs uploaded online to consider/edit?

I read this when trying to decide my button layout.  http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick.html
