JVL iTouch Error

Hey gang,
I'm having some troubles with my JVL iTouch.  Every time I boot it up I get the message "New version detected!  Factory reset required to proceed."  It also shows the old version, but it's all scrambled.

Since there's only a CD-ROM and a flash drive I tried replacing the flash card, but no luck.  Could it be the battery on the CPU that is dead? 

Any ideas?
