MicroXP and ArcadeVGA
« on: November 23, 2008, 04:00:26 pm »
Hi everyone,

I just received my ArcadeVGA v2. I have MicroXP installed on my PC in order to get the best results of an older board.

I force installed the drives in safemode and installed the ATI/ArcadeVGA control panel. Also I did run the ATI uninstall utility before everything.

In Device Manager I see my ArcadeVGA and the 9200 Secondary. But in display properties it's still just a generic VGA driver that I can't seem to change.

My question is whether I can use MicroXP with ArcadeVGA, or if I need to do a full install of XP.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Nathan

Thats such a specialized situation. Your best bet is to install a full version of XP, or TinyXP and see if the drivers work with those versions. Maybe someone here knows the answer, but I doubt it. Let us know what you find out.

MicroXP is really stripped, but isn't incompatible with video cards.

I cannot remember if the ArcadeVGA is a derivative of an ATI 7000.  As I have MicroXP and that same card in one of my PCs I use for my Training Lab.  MicroXP can be installed with or without drivers at install.

A good suggestion is to go into Device Manager and highlight the primary video card, and select properties.  In the driver details tab click the update driver and point it to the drivers disc of the ArcadeVGA.

Reboot and it should be there in Display Settings under properties.  Also check if your mainboard needs anything selected in BIOS.  If it is a PCI or AGP card - I do not see any reason why it should not work.

before you do the above, please make sure you go into registry and clean out any reference of the previous ARCADE VGA drivers.  Whatever you do, do not disable the default VGA driver in XP..... No that would be a real bad idea.   :dizzy:  ;D

Let us know how you get on.

It's a version 2 AVGA hence it's either AGP (9250) or PCIe - likely the former, depending on how much 'older' the mobo is.

If you're getting video out of the AVGA then try to use it natively in games. If it operates properly, who cares what it says in the Device Manager. If you mean you tried to install the drivers before installing the card, you need to do it in the reverse order.
