Verticle game issue on Horizontal Arcade Monitor
« on: November 23, 2008, 10:55:24 am »
I am running a slightly older version of Mame 0.83 on a cabinet with a 25" Wells Gardner (not exactly sure of the model number since the Chassis was removed to fit it in the cabinet).

When I am running games like Pac-Man or Galaga the bottom of the maze or my ship in Galaga seems to be below the visible bottom of the screen. I cannot see the bottom 1/4 or so of the screen - this happens only when the actual game starts. The initial start-up of the game is completely there - the grid and all of the text appears to be there.

I have been using the res-tool to create resolution ini files for every game. I have gone in and modified those ini files with all kinds of variations and it still cuts off the bottom of the maze.

Other games seem to play fine I tried out about 15 or so other games. For now it seems like just the Pac-Man and Galaga type games seem to have this issue.

Any ideas?
Is there anyway to get just these game to hardware stretch in the ini file? (I am guessing that this would be a last resort)

Thanks.

This is kind of a continuation of an earlier post that I made about Front End issues.

So in the game specific ini files you can change the video options.
I can make these games work, but I am not sure if this is the best answer.

I have looked around these boards and I see that this issue comes up a fair amount but I cannot find anyone that has seemed to put this to bed.

Is there something that I am missing?

PS for this cabinet I am using Soft 15KHz on an older Matrox card.

the only way to fix this sittue is to act on the trimmers of the monitor, dont' do it if you never done something like this before the setting itself is not dangerous but if you touch some live wire while doing it (especially the "suction cup") you can get serously wounded or worse.

My souggestioni s run thoose games in a resolution that is fine and you are sure that works.

This is sort of a double-posted thread....

yes I understand that. It would not let me change the subject of the other post and the frontend issue is solved. This is a separate issue. I should have just ended the frontend post but I tried to change the subject.

Sorry for any confusion.
