Ultimate Arcade II Cabinet Wheels
« on: November 19, 2008, 10:43:58 am »
Has anyone added any wheels to their Ultimate Arcade II Cabinet?

I was thinking about these...

Not sure they would work though because of the long back of the cab...

I just went to Home Depot or Lowes or something and bought some casters big enough to support the machine.  You can get different kinds with wheel locks or without and ones that are one direction or spin 360 degrees.  Would be a lot cheaper and they would be easy to get locally.

I hear what you are saying but I was more or less wondering if I could install the tilt back wheels?

The same 400 max wheels, without the joy of tilting style, cost about the same at Home Depot... so get those for the rear side of the cab I say.  They look that much nicer.  ;D

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

I bought my wheels from Divemaster and they've been great. Thought I'd let you know.

I don't have a picture, just the Happ drawing from his site:

I would rather have the tip back ones but I am just not sure they will work with my setup. I don't have the cab here yet so I am only going from pictures at this point.

On carpet, I can't even tell they're there. Rocks a little when playing fighting games, but that's my fault.

Couple of things to be careful of...

First don't forget that the bottom panel is around a half an inch up from the edges and it supports none of the weight.  ALL of the cab weight is supported by the sides and front.  When you put wheels on the bottom now it is supporting all the weight and it is only held in place with something like eight locking cams.  I haven't had any issues 'yet', but I will be re-enforcing the bottom panel soon so it can properly support the weight and have wheels attached.

Second, I'm not so sure the UAII will handle being tilted and rolled well.  I'd be afraid of the pressboard coming apart from the weight and stress at an odd angle.  I used low profile appliance casters on my UAII.

Just be careful and re-enforce the bottom and you should be fine, but I still wouldn't tilt and roll it.
