Received my Betson re-furbished and have some questions
« on: June 17, 2003, 05:03:51 pm »
First off, I have to say the thing is filthy inside.
I know it is refurbished but, for decency's sake, can't they clean it up a bit before sending it out?

Now to bigger problems.
One of the three rollers, rolls nicely and makes no noise.  A second roller makes some noise and the third one is really noisy and does not roll as well as the other ones.
Is this to be expected from a re-furbished trackball or am I getting a raw deal?

There is one specific direction in which, if I try to roll the ball, it tends to climb along on of the rollers and dislocates itself from its normal sitting position.

What is the proper way to lubricate this things?  Would that solve the problem or should I send it back to the hell that spawned it?

Thanks.

uh... that doesn't sound refurbished at all.. just used and re-sent out =P

I dunno what to tell you... clean it up and make sure there aren't any wear marks/grooves on the rollers...  lube up the bearings and see if it rolls decently.

I think Radio Shack sells some kind of electronics cleaner that works well.  Either Druin or Xiaou2 posted about it years ago.  Maybe try a search on the board or a PM.

I believed you a re-furbished trackball from them as well, right?
In what conditions was yours inside and out?

It was in reasonable condition.  It was at the most a little dusty, and not even that... it was relatively clean.  I took it apart and did clean/lube the bearings because I was after maximum wiz.  I still feel if I replaced the bearings I'd get more wiz out of it... but i digress...  mine looked lightly used *shrug*  If it wasn't for the refurb sticker and a few scratches I wouldn't have known the difference.

That's definitely not the case here.  I already prepared an e-mail which I'm about to send requesting a replacement or my money back if thier definition of "re-furbished" is the unit they sent me.
