how can i remove instantsheller
« on: November 08, 2008, 01:28:10 pm »
Hi i registered at the tom Spears forums to find an answer to this, but i still wait in for the validation email , so in the mean time i was wondering if someone knows how to remove instant sheller to make windows boot, i know i can do the alt, tab, Del, thing, but the problem is , that the PC wont boot at all, i get stuck a the boot screen and if a press a button the PC restarts, pretty much like if in the background i had a message that says press any key to reboot. Anyone had this problem ?
thanks for any help.

Yes, digging up a way old thread....
After playing with Instant Sheller just a bit to get a feel for it, I now realize it's won't UNDO when you choose the UNDO option. (well, not undo enough to get back to Windows anyways)
So how do I just get rid of this thing ?

The Undo option has always worked fine for me.  After clicking undo, what does it do when you reboot?  Does it load up your frontend instead of explorer.exe?

It seemed to do random things after trying the undo. Sometimes my frontend would still load no matter what I checked or unchecked. Sometime the WIndowsXP screen would come back, sometimes it wouldn't. The admin password box started appearing even with no password set, that never seemed to go away either with an undo. (I could just leave it blank and hit enter of course)
But the biggest problem is the background (desktop) always remained black.
I tried UNDO, I tried redoing with other options, then undoing.......the thing just never seems to UNDO "everything" it had done.
Was just kinda irritating because I hadn't finished configuring or loading software, so I couldn't get much further (easily anyways) since I couldn't UNDO what it had done.
Of course I could get into things like explore.exe using the RUN command and all that, but it just complicated things.

I ended up doing a system restore and having to re-install about half of my software and drivers. I set a more current restore point and will maybe play with the sheller again later.

you could use another pc to hook the harddrive hat has instantsheller,in explorer select tools, folder options, view hidden files, show protected files, then rename the boot.ini file to whatever, and rename the boot.bkp file to boot.ini, you should be able too bot in that hard drive, thats how i did once, and it worked or me, good luck.

There is another sheller out there now called quick sheller.  Maybe give that a try and see if you have more luck with it.

I had nothing but trouble with instant sheller

the Wiki on this site has step by step info on how to do it all yourself. You can do one thing at a time and make sure it works plus you know how to undo it if you want

Had just come across that one actually.... but hadn't tried it out yet.

I do believe that would be my next step after trying Quick Sheller out as I don't really want to fart with any other "quicky" programs anymore after that. (lord knows I have enough configuring to do as it is on this project)

Thanks.

EDIT: Just realized Quick Sheller is written by the same person as the frontend I'll be using..... SimpleTouchFE.... and also Freebox. (Lave Laar)
So my confidence has been boosted greatly even having not tried it yet.  ;D
