Okay, here's the story.  I started a business a few years ago that I've been simply too busy to follow thru on (kids take up a lot of time).  I still have my reseller account from my distributor, however.  

They have recently changed their rules.  If I don't place an order with them every six months, they'll oust my account, and it'll cost me $100 to get a new account.

I was just going to buy a $2 mouse, but seriously, thats kinda silly.  So, if anyone wants any current technology, let me know either by posting in this thread, or via PM,  I can get it for close to wholesale.

What would you consider good for this drive?  I don't offer rebates, as I'm not a store.  If you're looking for a 120G drive for like $30, you should check out http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/ they always have drives for cheap after rebates/price matching/etc.

The Baracuda is an insane drive! It is about th highest quality you can buy! You can go ahead and buy yourself a $.50/GB Maxtor... and you have ~ a 1/10 chance it needs warranty work... or you could get a Barracuda... TOTAL DIFFERENCE!!!

I don't know about thone Peale is selling, but mine is huge, wieghs a ton, sounds like a frieght train and is the most reliable drive I have ever owned. That is a great price besides...

I've never used the Baracudas, but believe it or not I'm an 'Offical Segate Reseller' whatever that means.  I filled out a form on the Seagate site, and they send me info on new products every couple weeks or so.

nb: I ususally deal in Athlon stuff, almost exclusively.  As such, I'm not up on Intel numbers as much as I used to be.  What is the significance of the letter after the speed, ie 2.4b, 2.4c etc?

I said CLOSE to wholesale, and I could get better prices if I bought in mass quantity.  Since I'm only one guy, buying maybe one of a particular product, I can't get these fantastic 'mass merchant' prices.  Those of you in business will agree.

Like Peale, i've tried my hands at computer sales as well.  I can tell his prices do sound right for wholesale prices.  As he mentioned, he could get better prices if he bought in high quantities, but even then the price doesn't decrease much.  With the exception of Newegg and a couple others, most of the stores on pricewatch have a good/great deal on one or maybe a couple items.  Again, Newegg and a couple others, are the only stores that have great prices all around.  The truth of the matter is, most of the other resellers on pricewatch are paying right around what Peale has said.  They price certain good selling items at a loss in hopes that if that get you to buy that item, maybe you'll buy something else as well.  You'd be very surprised to see how low a profit margin per item there is for about most resellers.  This is dealing with the big 3 wholesalers, not middlemen.  I'm not saying you should or shouldn't buy from him, just clearing the air about wholesale prices.  Peale obviously had good intentions here.  Besides, there still might be a deal on some items.  Out of curiosity Peale, were you an ASCII member?

I think it is very generous of Peale to offer to help those who want better prices on direct from the factory items (As opposed to the often factory refurb, overstock etc... you often get fromt he ultra low internet places. You can always find a cheaper price on the internet, places like pricewatch, eBay etc.. can be a great place to try and get lower prices but it does come with a risk, I've used pricewatch exactly 3 times and every time there have been problems with substitution, a item that turned out to be a factory refurb and a plain BS price. The computer industry is a very competitive market with low margins so when somthing is sold near cost its not that much of a discount since theres not alot of markup anyway. I have an account with a major hardware wholesaler and have extremely good pricing and when I checked the prices they weren't much lower than what Peale is offering. I think people should be more grateful of his offer to share.

ASCII is an organization that helps you get better prices from the 3 major computer wholesalers.  I think membership was $100 a month, and you were supposed to get the same prices from wholesalers that companies that the much larger stores are getting.  I'm not sure if thats really the case since i have no idea what prices these stores are getting their stuff for, but i can tell you that when I joined ASCII, my wholesale prices dropped by alot.  What ASCII does basically is negotiate with the big wholesalers so that their members get much better deals.  So instead of having to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars with the wholesalers to get good pricing, you just had to be an ASCII member.  The reason i asked, was your prices seem to be right around what mine were when i was an ASCII member.  I know before i joined ASCII, my wholesale pricing was discouraging to say the least.  It was almost retail price, it was ridiculous.  Magnet_Eye, i hope it didn't seem that i was jumping all over you about it, i was more just trying to clear the air and get the truth out.  You were just stating what you noticed.  No harm, no foul.

Ah, I heard about these blokes.  No, not a member.  Everything I get, I get from TechData.  I was going with Ingram Micro as well, but their prices were WAY above what I could get from TechData, so I dropped them.
