Multijamma
« on: November 06, 2008, 09:24:57 pm »
Just have a question for all you tech savvy group, the multijamma  product listed here http://www.multigame.com/jamma.html , will it work with a CPS2 setup.  What I was thinking was I have a X-Men Children of the Atom game and was thinking of seeing if one of these would add to it and add a few more games to it, just simple jamma type game PCB's that I have laying around. Not sure if it would work with it being a jamma setup but with the CPS2 also. Any thoughts or ideas on this let me know.
Video Games Currently owned and running: Mania Challenge, X-Men (Children of the Atom), A.P.B.

In the works Mame Trek (Scratch Built), Donkey Kong Jr. (Just got a PCB for)

CPS2 requires a kick harness, just be aware of that.

I've got one with two boards installed in my MJ that use non-standard JAMMA controls -- one with an analog stick and one with a trackball. Having said that, I've never had to share controls beyond the standard JAMMA between boards -- you might need some diodes if you ran kick harnesses to multiple boards in such a set up (or not, since they are all powered and use a common ground ... I need to think about that ... or ask somebody smarter than I am).

Clay's MultiJAMMA can be hard to find, although they do come up for sale every now and again. Also, the games are all powered up at all times, which can be disconcerting if, say, P2B3 was used to increase volume on one of the games -- you play one game, then switch to another with booming volume levels (GT2K comes to mind).

You might consider the 2-way switch from Mike's Arcade or the 6-in-1 that JammaBoards and Y-Plus (aka Yaton) sell.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The 6-in-1 does not share the -5V line, so you will need to make modifications if you need the -5V. Similarly, if you use PC power supplies in Clay's kit, you will need to run -5V to a separate connector on the switch boards.

EDIT: Fixed bad link-fu

EDIT2: FWIW, I resolved my issue with the volume on GT2K by desoldering and lifting the contact for P2B3 on the switch board. Works like a charm and all I have to do to  is solder the connector back if I want to swap GT2K for another game.
