Happ Perfect 360 Wiring

Hey folks,

I know I'm a complete newb, but hear me out.

I decided to upgrade from microswitch joysticks to Happ Perfect 360 optical sticks, but I'm confused by the wiring.
Happ didn't include any kind of instructions or diagrams for the wiring, and when I hooked up my 2-wire system (two wires, when crossed either directly or via a switch, complete the circuit and send the signal), either all 4 directions were on, or if I tried using 1 wire at a time, all 4 were off no matter what.

Anyone with a set of 360s want to set me straight?

There should be four connectors on the base, probably labeled U D L R for up, down, left and right.  Other than that, there should be a read and black wire for +5V and ground, respectively.

Since the P360 uses a little circuit board, it does not require a dedicated ground for each input.

As Stobe hinted, the big difference between the p360 and a mircoswitch stick is the p360 needs power (5 V+) to power the optical sensors.  What are you hooking the joystick to?  (ipac, gpwiz, gamepad hack?)  You might be able to get the 5v+ from the encoder, depending which you have.  Or you might need to get it from the computer 5v+ or elsewhere.

Are there any step by step  directions on wiring of 2 p360's to a computer power supply. I'm assuming I would wire them to a molex, but I'm stumped after that. I haven't been able to find any detailed info on how to wire it.

When I wired my P360s, I took the power from one of my motherboard's USB headers.  I just took a USB header cable and cut one end off (obviously not the end that plugs onto the header) and then took the +5V and the ground wires and connected them to a small terminal strip.  Then, run the P360 +5V and ground wires to the terminal strip.

When I wired my P360s, I took the power from one of my motherboard's USB headers.  I just took a USB header cable and cut one end off (obviously not the end that plugs onto the header) and then took the +5V and the ground wires and connected them to a small terminal strip.  Then, run the P360 +5V and ground wires to the terminal strip.

I want to know this too.  Can you run more than one joystick to the terminal strip at that point?

But what are you using for a keyboard encoder?   Instead of banging your head against the wall, the Ipac has a +5 volt connector already there!  Thats the easiest way I can think of.

Also you can rig it from a power supply if you are using that for your arcade.

Dummies Guide

Molex connector
Pins    4

   Color    Type
Pin 1    Yellow    +12V
Pin 2    Black    Ground
Pin 3    Black    Ground
Pin 4    Red    +5V

The PC (power supply) side has female connectors
while the Drive side has male connectors.
You can get the female/male molex connectors anywhere PC parts are sold
or you can just cut the connector off and solder and insulate your wires.

Both the Ultimarc and GGG encoders supply 5v, at least the former for up to four sticks.
