You Don't Know Jack Controls
« on: November 06, 2008, 11:58:46 am »
Just an FYI.

I bought the PS2 Buzz controllers that come with the game.  These work as a USB joystick.  This means that you can use autoHotkey or whatever to remap the buttons as keystrokes to play YDKJ.  Giving you a buzzer with the 4 answer buttons on it.  Unfortunately these are wired controllers, so the cables can get tangled.  But hey, they're cheap.

I also bought the XBOX 360 Scene-it controllers.  These are wireless USB.  But the microsoft XBOX gaming controll drivers do not work with it.  So unless drivers are found/made then these will not work.  Too bad.  Wireless controlls would be great.

I never even considered the fact that those might work with YDKJ! I started a copy of the YDKJ button box a long time ago and never finished it.

Having said that, what is stopping your opponents from picking the answer for you? I would assume all the answer buttons would have to be the same.

Love the game.  After playing for many hours, the best solution for us anyway, is to make sure every team has a keyboard.  The buzzers look cool and all but you will need to pass a KB for the answers.  Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, that happens sometimes during a heated game.  But then you get to punch the button happy person.  :)  You could always just only map the buzz in buttons.

You can usually find the Buzz controllers on sale for $20 or less.  Cheap, saves a lot of contsruction time and looks/feels great.

I also have a small Gyration wireless keyboard handy to pass around when needed.  Having the BUZZers sure beats everyone hunched over 1 keyboard.

BTW, I map the extra 4th controller as the screw button.  Sits on the table until needed and then the answer keys are the player to screw.  Easier then finding the S on the keyboard.  Saves wear and tear on the S key in "Jack The Ride" multi-screw.

It is really too bad that there is no driver to get the Microsoft Scene-it controllers to work.  Wireless would be way cooler.
