Price of a Spy Hunter Upright in good condition
« on: November 01, 2008, 02:00:28 pm »
Guy on craigslist is asking $300 for an upright Spy Hunter.  He insists the cabinet is nice and good condition.  Says has no holes.  Some chunks missing from corners.  Control panel overlay, coin door, and marquee have no damage.  Bezel condition unknown but looks nice from picture.  says he doesnt know off hand if the sideart is there(machine located 15 miles away from house in storage).  from the picture on craigslist i dont see it on the one side.  Game is working fully.

Its about a 45 min drive to go see it.  i just dont know about the price.  seems kinda steep and he isnt going to budge.

EDIT: listing says $350 but he told me $300 in email.

EDIT2: just emailed me and its $350.

If you like Spy Hunter,  350 is a steal.

I paid over $600 for mine.

That's a good price. I've done a little research on what they're going for on CL across the country and based on your description I certainly wouldn't pass on it if I were in your shoes!
My Collection: Mame cab, 38 dedicated vids, pin, skeeball, coin op air hockey table, Ice Cold Beer, Megatouch, 2 token machines, and payphone (VAPS, pics at Arcade Crusade)

well ive never played spy hunter on a dedicated machine.  but i will probably go check it out along with the other machines he has.

apparently he has a jack the giant killer cocktail brand new in box, a Satan's Hollow, and nintendo vs. system.

im interested to see the Satan's Hollow.  i understand this is a rare game.  think he is asking $500.

IDK if you hold KLOV rarity ratings to mean anything, but James the Giantkiller is a 7 out of 100 and Satan's Hollow is a 25.  1 is the rarest. Ive never heard of James the Giantkiller, but if he has one still crated, its gotta be worth something.

he might have sold them by now.  when i talked to him around the 24th of october, he mentioned he had those games.  gonna try and go see them tomorrow.

not sure what the rare titles are worth.

An FYI...   Just because something is rare... does not really make it valuable.

In fact, there are games out there that only a few exist.. and yet,  they are so
horrific that Nobody wants to own them.

Personally, I love satans hollow... however,  Spy Hunter is really a superior
choice, as the gameplay is much more complex and fun.

I think the poster is looking to see if he can resell something of value... when
really, only the Giant Killer MIght have some real value.  The rest are good games
at decent prices.. but nothing major.

nah not looking to resell anything.  here in nebraska, it seems like its pretty slim pickings when it comes to arcade machines.  sure they pop up from time to time but a lot of them are way overpriced.  i just got into the whole arcade thing about a year ago and i just cant stop.  im constantly looking for something new to add to my small collection.  already have a MAME cabinet, a dedicated MKII that i restored, and gottlieb sinbad pinball.

like i said, im new to the hobby so im not quite familiar with prices all the time.

I'm in Nebraska as well.  There seems to be a few come up on Craigslist occasionally.  I saw this one the other day I would love to buy but I don't have the room or cash.  http://omaha.craigslist.org/tag/903491445.html.  There is also an auction in Des Moines on the 29th of Nov, http://www.geocities.com/gameboy97/desmoines.html.  I might try and hit that one but will most likely wuss out since I still won't have any money or room.

As soon as I replace the accelerator pot in my UR Spy Hunter, I'm going to have mine for sale for $800 firm.

Yes, that's a bit high.  A more typical price for SoCal would be around $650 or so for one in very good condition like mine, with recent work & upgrades.

Why so high on the price?  I have a coworker who just bought a 3000 ft^2 house & is dying to fill up his house & is begging to store it indoors indefinitely for free, giving me full visitation rights.  Space is currently tight in my townhouse, since I got married & my wife moved in & I plan on putting the game in our next home.  So, in my situation, I'm not looking to deal.

Just another price data point to add to the discussion--not trying to derail the thread.  $350 sounds great.  Based on those craigslist pics vs. mine (http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/ff97/infernolab/forsale/?start=all), I think that SH in the OP is missing its artwork, and it's got a replacement shifter knob

Thanks,
-J

well thanks for the listing brock.  used to play the crap outta Out Run when i was younger.  i just got back from Omaha with a very nice Out Run.  Side art is very nice with a few spots where its been nicked.  Cabinet is very solid and looks nice.  Only thing wrong is the plastic is cracked around the shifter.  hopefully i can find a replacement....seems like its a hard piece to get.  anyways, Thanks Jim.

was really debating about getting the Spy Hunter.  After talking to some of you, it seemed like a really good price but i still had not seen the cabinet.  I think i would have enjoyed the game but not as much as i like Out Run.  So thats what i went with.

The guy i bought the Out Run from said he bought some cabinets from the guy who has the Spy Hunter and he said that a lot of his cabs have monitor issues.  not sure if that applied to the SH though.  Oh well, hopefully someone else will pick it up and enjoy it.

Congratulations.  Thanks for removing the temptation I was beginning to try and talk myself into that outrun.  I loved that game as well and played it a ton at the local bowling alley when I was young.  As much as I like outrun I like sleeping in my bed a little more.   ;)  That one is still near the top of my most wanted list.
