JPAC 5 Volts, needed?
« on: November 01, 2008, 07:52:37 am »
Hi All,

I am rewiring an old arcade cabinet I got of Ebay that was connected to the following:

Ancient monitor.
Coin box
PC or Jamma

Since I have now purchased a new Hantarex Polo 3 21" which I understand can run on the 1 Volt supplier by the JPAC and shall no longer be using the coin box or the Jamma, so I still need to feed the JPAC with 5 Volts or can it now simply be connected to the PC and controls with RGB going to the monitor?

Also one other thing, I see that the speakers go through the JPAC and then the amp and speaker, considering a JAMMA board will no longer be used, is this still required, or can I connect the speakers direct to the pc to, to have less connections through the JPAC.

Thanks in advance.

The J-PAC does not need any power from the game board power supply, it is powered from the USB or keyboard port.

Yes the speakers can be connected direct to the PC. I always think this is the best way to do it, as you can use a nice set of PC speakers with sub-woofer.

Cheers as always Andy and one last bit of Info;

This is the JPAC I have:

And just wanted to double check that this too does have the Video Amplifier to 5 Volts for the Hantarex Polo 3 like your new one?

Cheers!

Andy, just goes to show what a top quality product Ultimarc  produces and last through the years :-)

Right I am close to finishing reqiring the whole thing, but I found a small wierd PCB connected to the button for pressing escape that then got connected to one of the PS2 connectors on the JPAC. Strange they did not wire this escape button directly to the JPAC.

As this got unsoldered and I cannot solder it back, am I right in thinking that I wire one end the Ground Screw terminals and the other at say "2SW8" and then program that to be the Escape button?

Sorry I should put a photo of the tiny PCB, but am in the office.
