What MAME version runs this game rom - unkmeyco.zip
« on: October 31, 2008, 06:55:13 pm »
My MAME version is so old an un-updated it doesn't show up in any list of games. (0.58.0.0)

I have some actual game pcb's from this same manufacturer (MEYCO GAMES) and all I wanted to do is see a screenshot or something to know what this era game looked like before I start working on these pcb's.

They are supposed to be some sort of slot or poker game I'm sure.
I believe the ones I have are called Golden Arrow.

Or is there a way (.dat file) to update my old version to have a current list of games.
(even if I have the wrong ROMs for them, that's fine.

Sorry if this is simplistic to some or has been covered, but I'm don't mess with MAME much anymore and don't really plan to stay updated on it.... just wanted to see a snapshot of this one game. (if it even works)

Or if anyone can take a screenshot of any MEYCO games that may work in MAME.
Thanks......

it may be hard as that stands for unknown meyco . zip so the game name itself is unknown.

I believe it turned out to be 'Wild Arrow'

http://www.mameworld.net/maws/set/wldarrow

you can run MAME -romident blah.zip to see if anything is recognized

if you have other Meyco games, and can dump them, then we'd be interested in supporting them.  There is very little good documentation available on them, hence the rather preliminary status of Wild Arrow.

*edit* sorry, turned out to be their other game
http://www.mameworld.net/maws/set/mdrawpkr

as I said, if you have any others, please dump them so that they can be supported.  we're very interested in adding support for anything new.

Well, that's a whole lot more information than I knew about them for sure.

So the unkmeyco should actually be renamed to mdrawpkr.

Can you say which MAME version will run those games?
Looks like the latest change on either one was version .115, will that run both then?

I have four boards to mess with and I believe they are all Golden Arrow.
(some are pretty beat up, so I'll rob parts from those)
If I can get one of the boards running I'll test all the roms that I can for a good set that maybe I can send to someone. I don't have a means to dump them.

Right now I'm waiting on an edge harness..... they're not JAMMA ya know.  :laugh2:

correct, it should be mdrawpkr

the latest version definitely runs 'wild arrow', mdrawpkr is marked as not-working, and doesn't seem to have any inputs right now.  That could be for several reasons, I don't have any more details at the moment.

WooHooo !!
Just played a little of that Wild Arrow..... sum exitin' stuff there.  ::)

But still cool to see kinda what these boards will be like.
And I'm just into getting at least one board running for testing purposes.. and just because.

Thanks for the help guys.... I'll keep you updated when/if I figure out what I have here.

Made a little progress last night ..... got one of the boards to boot up.
The game looks ALOT like Wild Arrow .... but there is definitely a difference on the top two pay lines on the left.
And the top payout line has , well, Golden Arrows.

My little test monitor is on it's last leg, just needs re-capped really, so I'll have to get out one of the bigger ones out for a better picture. (colors are poor and it's shifted left considerably)

Right now I'm stuck at a BATTERY RAM FAILED message.
But even if I keep power applied to the ram it says it. Tested with the other RAM I have, same thing. If I leave it out completely, it just doesn't boot up at all.
 :dunno

But it looks like I have a few good sets of ROMs and PROMs. (3 ROMs 1PROM)
Who could I send this stuff to for dumping?

Was just browsing through the Wild Arrow zip file and noticed it has four files.
Any of you MAME gurus know if one of those is for a PROM?
Even though the game I have been messing with is very similar to Wild Arrows there is only three actual ROMs on board. The only other thing would be the one PROM.

All four boards I have only have the three ROMs, so I'm sure that's all there should be.
(besides, it boots up fine)

I'm not gonna mess with the boards much more, but wanted to get the ROMs off to someone for dumping and needed to know if I should include the PROM.

the sets supported definitely has 4 roms, there is no prom in the dump (which might be why the colours are bad in MAME)

your boards are probably different to the supported set.

where are you located?

I think the colors in the MAME version of Wild Arrows is pretty spot on to the colors I see on these boards. (Golden Arrows) My first picture above is pretty poor, the background is actually blue and such like Wild Arrows. They're just a VERY simple game, not to much on the graphics side of things. Looks like the most basic of a color palette.

There are some slight variations between the boards I have, looks mostly to be extra inputs and outputs on some. The boards are actually the same, just some actual components were not installed in some places. Looks like it may also have something to do with different dipswitch options. Like maybe outputs to coin hoppers and such.

I did see some reference somewhere to a Meyco boardset that looked TOTALLY different from these. I think theirs was actually a two board set with a ribbon cable connecting the two. These that I have are single boards and don't appear to require anything else.

I'm located in Oklahoma. (US obviously)

I still can't seem to get it passed the Battery Ram Failure error ..... it's the same error as what shows up in the Meyco Draw Poker game that's not playable.
Haven't found the sound output yet either. There's a potentiometer which I assume is for volume, but maybe it just hasn't made any noise yet.

These boards have a odd edge harness pin count. They have a small 9(18) pin and then a larger 34(68) pin edge connectors. So needless to say the edge harness I got for them doesn't fit, more for the Cherry Masters and such, so I've had to solder a makeshift harness directly to the board for testing.

I'll send a notice out, see if anybody is interested in helping with it.

Battery RAM failure might indicate that the game needs some default settings in battery backed RAM to function, hopefully not critical game code however.  There might be some way to 'initialize' it as long as there is a working battery.

Sorry, I don't have many details on these boards.

Yeah, that's what I was starting to think myself.
Appears the RAM in question is a CMOS static ram HM6116.
http://www.hmisemi.com.tw/HM6116-70(0611W652).pdf

I'm not a bit and bytes type person..... I tend to stick with the hardware side of things.
But I have been poking around with the idea of trying to see if there was a way to "initialize" like you mentioned.
Maybe like a setup trigger so that it can be reset somehow.

Wonder what that particular RAM data is for Wild Arrow?

Anyways, if anyone wants to mess around with it just let me know.
Not a high demand game that's for sure..... just something to play around with.

Hi Kevin, the Mame team is interested in getting that different ROM set you have supported in Mame.  Would you mind contacting us at mamdev.org?  Thanks!

if you have other Meyco games, and can dump them, then we'd be interested in supporting them.  There is very little good documentation available on them, hence the rather preliminary status of Wild Arrow.

I finally got to play with an EPROM programmer for a little while and dumped the three ROM's from the MEYCO boards I have. And all four boards were labeled as GOLDEN ARROW. (looks very similar to the Wild Arrow gameplay) Although I never have gotten these to "play" due to the battery backup ram failure errors, so there may be more information needed from that. All three are 2764 eprom's. Hopefully I dumped them correctly, the data looked a little odd, but I did all four sets and they compared correctly to eachother.
If there's any other hardware information needed just let me know what to look for and I'll get it.
