Does anyone have a list of older 'standard' arcade games?
« on: October 27, 2008, 08:54:17 am »
Here's the problem:

I have two MAME machines running an older version of MAME - mostly the standard games - nothing brand new.

My problem is, when people come over for a party, there are 5,000 or so games for them to scroll through.  Some of course don't work very well if at all with the controls that I have (ie. Star Wars, etc.)

Does anyone have a list of the more common games that I can carve this list down to so that my guests can easily find their favorites?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Paul

What controls do you have ?

You can pare down the list to your specific controls using MAWS.

Thanks for the reply...

I had some trouble with the search on that site -but maybe I am using it incorrectly?

I have two game machines.

One is a two player with 2 joysticks, 6 buttons per stick.

The other is a one player with 6 buttons.

Is there a way on that site to show me all mame games with 1 or 2 player, up to 6 buttons?

I am confused...

Thanks!

Click 'deluxe search' at the top. This then gives you a greater list of filters down the left hand side. You can then fiter by control type, number of buttons etc.

use ROMLister:

http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister

it was built for exactly the type of thing you're trying to do-reduce the # of games in your list down to only the ones your machine is capable of playing due to the controls.

Thanks - I think that it looks like ROMLister is just what I am seeking!

You might find KLOV's list helpful as well. This pretty much covers the games which the typical non-arcade fanatic will ask for. I hear the same ones over and over...

Pac/Ms Pac, Galaga, Space Invaders, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat.
