Volume and skip song buttons for jukebox
« on: October 26, 2008, 09:04:04 pm »
Can someone recommend good buttons for volume up, volume down, and skip song?

I have a touchscreen jukebox, but I want to add hard buttons, both by the screen, as well as behind the bar.  I'm thinking that there must be some sort of arrow buttons that make their purpose obvious.  Any sources?

Thanks,
Burke

why not just use a PC based remote controller for that? There is couply which just sent to a keyboad event, that can been picked up by any jukebox software?

Can you recommend a remote?

I guess I had it in my mind that I wanted hidden buttons behind the bar.  It just seems cooler to have hidden buttons than to have a remote control sitting on the bar.

For hidden buttons you could just do a keyboard hack, it would be easier but with a remote you could control far more easilly.. Any of the PC Remotes should work if they can send keypresses.

... or mouse, if the jukebox software can use mouse wheel to tone volume up/down and right or mid button to skip the song. That is what I would do in MultiFE (which these buttons can been show with pincode protected). I guess it not hard for example for Freebox to support the wheel for volume (haven't tested if it allready exists). Otherwise it would been a nice feature to do that.

Windows Media Player remotes is normally just send some keypresses.. and is useable for jukebox application. If Windows Media Center is not used, remember to disable some service, so the big green buttons dosen't start that, if that application is not used (not checked these out).

A remote controller I would recommered, but still not having that is StreamZap.

UncleT use a Logitech one if remember correctly for his jukebox (using his own software of course), but which one it was?

Pick your favorite buttons from happ and contact one of the vendors over in Buy/Sell/Trade to get a better price.  Add in a keywiz/ipac to make interfacing easier.

I think having buttons behind the bar is a great idea!

I used the "ATI Remote Wonder Plus" remote control and it is covered in this thread:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=75602.0

The remote works well, although I found out the receiver part of the remote control unit works best when it is in plain site (ie: not hidden inside of the jukebox cabinet).   just something to think about when planning your design.   Hiding behind some speaker fabric  would be an option.

I'm working on a USB joystick hack.  I'll post details when I have it working.

I was looking for some sort of triangular buttons.  I want to orient two up and down to indicate volume up and down, and one oriented to the right to indicate song skip.  Has anyone seen any buttons that make those intentions obvious?

Are you wanting something like these?

I can't for the life of me remember what site it was that had all kinds of odd shaped buttons.

look at the arrows in this thread.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=63547.msg0#new

These are the buttons I used, http://www.happcontrols.com/pushbuttons/710004tx.htm

I got them from ebay sold by arcadeemulators and changed out the stock bulbs with LEDs because of heat issues.
