Early blueprint
« on: June 16, 2003, 01:32:12 am »
So this is what I've come up with so far. (See pic)
It's a screenshot of Visio...the lil orange buttons are momentary contacts from Happs (not sure on actual size yet so I estimated). Suggestions??? It has 7 buttons for all 4 players for symmetry and cause I am thinking of putting dreamcast in the cab (good 4 player fun) but I await answers from the "sharing Ipac and Dreamcast" topic posted previously.
Thanks
Derek
edit* Forgot to tell the dimensions.......This is using the 1:2 ratio stencils in the download sections. So in actuality the CP will be like 48" by 20"....

Drop all but 4 buttons on players 3 and 4... no game (in mame) uses them...

Next, get some cardboard and try it out with fake components.  Make sure everyone can sit next to each other and still use the controls.

Next, check to see if you can play 2 player smashtv and total carnage... GREAT 2player games...

But other then that... looks good... I personally don't like the rounded button layout (instead of two straight rows)... but thats because the streetfighter games I grew up using didn't have them...  Better ergonomics sure...  But I kept missing the buttons... so I switched back.

I agree with Lilwolf.  Lose the extra buttons on P3 and P4 and make some more room on the CP, unless you are going to run console emulators.  Even then, I can't think of many 4 player console games that use more than 2 or 3 buttons.  Besides, console games are better with gamepads anyway :)

I would angle the 2 outside players. Otherwise they're gonna get pretty uncomfortable. Plus with all that room in the middle of the CP you may wanna consider a trackball. I don't see the problem with 6 buttons for 3rd and 4th player, but 7 is kinda wierd.

Well wouldn't just 6 buttons for P3 and 4 look weird compared to player 1 and 2. I felt that games like blitz 2000 and other Dreamcast games would prolly need 6+ buttons, hence P3 and 4 has more buttons. But I dunno...
